Places to watch in Rome?
« on: March 21, 2024, 09:38:50 AM »
Hope I’m not breaking the rules of the Al … the family is heading to Rome on Saturday.

I’ve done a bit of internet sleuthing and found some decent leads for places to catch the game on Sunday, but thought … maybe someone on ‘scoop knows of a place?

Go Marquette!!

In Rome, well, across the river in Trastevere is a great beer bar, Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fa',(loosely translated - What am I doing here?,  aka the football pub. https://www.football-pub.com. Rumor has it that other members of this board have been there. They started out smuggling Belgium monk beers into Italy in their VW van. They have grown up sadly, but still fun and great beer selection.
While the internet has ruined every secret travel place, Trastevere is a bit off the beaten path and has a great collection of restaurants and bars and shops.

I'd PM either pbiflyer or warriorchick... looks like they have good knowledge of the area.

I have never been in Rome during basketball season so I am no help there...
Have some patience, FFS.

Could finally get an answer on which Jesuit team he's pulling for between us the Zags and Creighton.

You may not like his answer. I hear he's still pissed that MU took Jacques Marquette off the seal.

I just got back from Rome - I was there during NMD. I watched in my hotel room because it was late. But, if I was to watch at a bar, I would have tried to watch at, in this order:

1. Finnegan Irish Pub
2. The Surge

I stayed in Monti, so that's why both of my suggestions are in Monti.

I'd try to find an Irish bar, that would be your best bet. The Italians don't watch sports at bar like we do. Worse comes to worst, download the free trial of NordVPN and watch on your PC/Phone.

I watched the maui tournament from Spain and would second the recommendation on the VPN.  Was a great option considering the odd hours of those two games in Europe.

Pissed? He excommunicated all the Jesuits at Marquette as retaliation. He's got Creighton winning the natty in his bracket. We're really screwed now.

Thanks for the tips! We’re staying in the Trastevere area so that’s promising!

He excommunicated himself?

Nope. Just the Marquette Jesuits. They had it comin'. 'Bout time!

Highlander Pub will have all the games. Haven't watched basketball there, but was a great place to watch NFL games.

Look for an Irish flag. You’ll find warm beers and several TVs. Good luck convincing them that truTV is a real channel
