NCAA TV contract runs through 2032. The Big East Tournament in MSG will now run through 2032. Will 2032 be the requiem for the NCAA tournament like 2024 is for the PAC12?

I sure hope not.

Not a chance in hell.   Best sporting even of the year hands down.  I heard something like $2.5B will be bet on the tournament this year.  Over 2x the super bowl.

Depends. The NCAA is stupid enough and incompetent enough that they could blow a great thing!

From the NCAA's point of view, how much of the $2.5 billion in gaming winnings off the Tournament do they receive?

It's cute that you think the NCAA is in control here.

Yep.  Hopefully for basketball purposes the Big East will be involved with the new tournament.

Maybe you could say certain university president of the NCAA are in control.

Pecking order in all this:
Big10 & SEC presidents

Big 12 presidents
ACC presidents

---------- don't really count for $h!t line----------------

Big 10 & SEC commissioners
All other commissioners

I thought this was going to be in reference to the fact that "March Madness" is clearly disgusting ableist language that mocks the plight of the mentally ill.

Control?  No... but they do have the ability to mess up even the most simple and obvious things.

Again, the NCAA isn't in control of the future here. Its not the NCAA that's talking about expansion. Gavitt is the one talking about how special the current format is.

Its the big conference commissioners, especially the SEC and Big Ten, that are pushing for expansion and/or limiting the participation of the auto-bids. And given what just happened with the football negotiations, I have no doubt they are going to use their leverage to influence this as much as possible.

Are the Big 12, ACC, SEC and B1G only going to have one champion as an automatic qualifier. With the PAC 12 gone there is one additional at large, for now.

College football is awesome. But I'm not sure the leaders of college sports understand WHY it's awesome and that its not always translatable to basketball.

I do understand the frustration of the larger conferences. And I do think the "magic" of the tournament isn't mostly due to a bunch of crappy 15 and 16 seeds. Wagner, Stetson and Grambling were just awful and honestly I would have rather seen better competition than that.

But I also understand the frustration of the true mid-majors. JMU wasn't making this tournament unless they won the conference tournament according to all of the metrics, and I can understand why that's frustrating for them as well.

The presidents call all the shots for major decisions. Commissioners literally don't have a vote. They do as they are told.

My point is that it's the conferences in control of this...not the NCAA. But congrats on your pedantry.

Oh, I 100% agree with you. Clearly you didn't need the clarification but a lot of people do actual think these commissioners are in charge. I think the level of misunderstanding in the media and general public is material enough that my comments don't rise to the level of pedantry. I could be wrong.
