When you set the school record for assists, it's a no brainer.  TyKo was the star.

Kam was the recipient of many of those dimes and would've been SOTG on any other night.  Great to see those threes dropping like that.

Yeah, I kinda lean this way, too.

But obviously I've got no problem if TK gets it. He had 8-10 amazing passes and coulda tied or passed the Big East assist record (22) if a few other open 3s he set up went in.

Oso is an afterthought despite having an outstanding game.

Not quite Curly Neal level passing and playmaking ;D But awesome performance by Tyler. Definitely SOTG over Kam.

Kam..

Honorable to TKO and Stevie. I was hoping we'd also see the single game steals broken too by Stevie. He had 5 at half (should have been 6...I think Kam got credit for one Stevie slapped out). Sadly not enough run (but wanted to see it as a double double).
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

TK.

I know guys have to make the shots but he seldom does not hit his teammates in the perfect spot to hit the shot. The 18th assist on the inbounds play was a great example of that. He hit Kam waist high on his left side and Kam went straight into the shot.

He hits guys in their comfort zone on almost pass. That is high IQ of knowing the game and how to put a teammate in best position to be successful.

Exactly.  His ability to see the court and know where his guys are and where they are going to be seconds later is unparalleled in the NCAA right now.

Plus he plays with a fire that isn't common.  Sometimes it gets to him, but he's done a better job of controlling his tilt in the second half of the conference season.

Nobody is going to dispute that DePaul is really bad, but you really can't dispute that it was historic. He set MU's single-game assist record. That's in the books. Years from now when another great MU point guard is having the game of his life and approaching 18 assists, they're going to talk about how he has a shot to break TyKo's single game assist record. That's kind of what the word "historic" means.

TyKo for SOTG with a very strong honorable mention for Kam. And given the historic nature of TyKo's game, I wouldn't be opposed -- just this one time -- to joint SOTGs because Kam really did have a great game (and we really needed to see him do that).

The long pass down to Stevie for the fast break layup and ally oop to Chase Ross were unreal passes. He has had a great highlight film over the past ten games and I have not seen a better passer at MU. I agree with Dr. B that Sam Worthen was unreal, but not TK unreal, imo.

I will add, I have never seen a crowd, or watching on TV (me), that watching one guy passing the ball got so much attention. Most fans average fans are not watching the game that closely to understand a guy getting a ton of assists, TK has changed that and last night everyone was on TK record watch from early in the game.

The last assist of the first half -- where he and Kam were on a fast break and Kam passed to a trailing TyKo and TyKo passed it right back -- was also really nice.

Wild to discredit TK Vs DePaul

But credit Kam, who has thrashed Gtown vs DePaul while struggling for months now vs teams with a pulse.

Elonsmusk

DePaul was terrible, yet a good number of Kolek's passes last night were higher degree of difficulty than average and the precision was amazing.  An absolute joy of a performance to watch and a uniqure stat line of 1-2 FGA, 3 points, 18 assists with 19% usage despite shooting just twice.

That being said, I've got to go Kam who had a 201 O-Rating, a career high 34 points on 8-10 shooting from 3 and 4-5 from 2, all in just 23 minutes of action.  I'd argue the above may be a historic performance at MU for efficiency.

DePaul was just the medicine the team needed after the UCONN debacle.

The Sultan

I actually thought that Tyler was intentionally passing up shots. I think he wanted the assist record while recording zero points.

This is spot on. My section started talking about it when he had 7 assists in 7 minutes and by the second half we were talking about not only the Tony Miller record, but the Big East and NCAA records. The arena was very aware.

Weird take. I wasn't discrediting Tyler, I was discrediting DePaul.  Tyler's run last year from January to March was perhaps a top 2 program performance for instance, culminating in the UCONN BET game.  Magical

For the record, Tyler had games of 14 and 15 dimes a year ago versus the great DePaul and Georgetown teams. No matta.  The 1st half he had at Xavier was historic to me on the other hand.

I wish we'd have played an actual D1 opponent. Shaka had 'em ready. We'd have rolled. In a weird way, playing DePaul when the guys were so determined and focused was almost a waste. I hope they bring this Sunday vs. X and then the rest of the way.

There were at least 5-6 times that he passed up either a wide-open 3 or the kind of running bank shot through contact he takes (and makes) regularly. But he also made some virtuoso passes. And if there's one opponent you can do anything you want against - including use your 6-11 center as the PG for several minutes - it was this one.

I'm not sure that's true. 6 of Tylers assist went to Jones.  1 was an uncontested fast break layup. 2 were wide open corner threes (where Kam is shooting 51% on the season). Only 3 of the assists to Kam resulted in makes that required Kam to be on fire.  Given that Kolek played a near season low 26 minutes,  I think he coulda gotten those last three if stayed in a little longer

Watching the Illinois game, one of their players drove and then kicked it out to the corner. The recipient had to scoop up the pass on the short hop and was then in no position to shoot what would have been a wide-open 3 had the pass been good.

Kolek delivers that pass right into the shooting pocket time after time after time. Doesn't matter how far away he is, or if he's being bumped by his man, or swarmed by multiple defenders. Just perfect freakin' passes. That's the kind of little thing that isn't so little because it helps a team win. It's really something to behold, and I'm gonna miss the heck out of watching it.

TK hits every guy in their wheelhouse and does it virtually every time. One of the first things I remember being taught about basketball was to always pass the ball to the right guy and pass it where they can immediately do something positive with the ball. I have been obsessed with that for over 40 years.

Hitting an open guy is not that hard. Hitting an open guy and putting him in position to succeed is hard to do. I watched a lot of basketball today and there was no one that came close to TK's precision. TK was very good on hitting the guy last year but this year is at a different level.
