The only point I disagree with you on Papi is "a win is a win". The value of winning our game vs, UCLA is sinking as the season goes on. What will it be by Selection Sunday?
Beating UCLA allowed us to play and beat the crap out of Kansas, which allowed us to play and almost beat Purdue. What are you talking about?

The return of Chase will help.   If Tre doesn't step up, Kam or Stevie run the point for 8 minutes a game and Chase and Zaide play 15-18 each.

I agree with this analysis.  I've been reluctant to comment on Tre as my impressions generally haven't been too positive.  I like his attitude and his size/physicality, yet that also limits his quickness/overall athleticism.  His 3-ball is very flat, but that should be able to be corrected/improved by the time he's an upperclassman.

Knowing how high Shaka is on him, and that he's been a winner and is a high character kid - hoping things click a bit more for him NOW, given the opportunity in front of him.

But, if they don't, then we do need to run Kam/Stevie at the point for 8 minutes per game to get Kolek down to 32.  And in doing that, it should help get Zaide more minutes - which I feel is critical at this point as he can be a real X-factor going forward.

No question about what you wrote. Justs saying the value of the UCLA game when the Selection Committee sizes up Marquette will be based upon UCLA's entire season. At the time we played them, they were a high level team. Now, they are 8-11.

Kam as a fill in? Yes. Has a pretty good handle and moves the ball.

But I would dread having to have Stevie play point. He doesn't even want to bring the ball up court. And I say that as a huge fan of Stevie.

It would be similar to when Mark Anglavar was asked to play point and break the press. The only good that came of that was that it brought us Tony Miller.
Somebody has to give TKo a break.   Options:  Tre, Kam, Stevie.   In a perfect world, Tre figures it out, shows he is ready, and alleviates everyone's anxiety about PG play in 24-25.   That isn't what happened yesterday.  I think Kam and Stevie are perfectly capable of running the offense for 4 minutes a half.

They're not gonna penalize marquette for a win. They're gonna be sizing up Marquette based on Marquettes total season, namely did they win a lot and who did they lose to.

Obviously, you're correct

Not as much as Willie.  Willie said the season was over yesterday.  Surprised anyone is still posting about this year.  Time to move on to 24-25.

I don't know if wampum's musings make me happy I never go on the game threads or make me start thinking I should check out game threads just for the comic relief.

Yeah, not much chance I'll go there. I frankly don't know how folks who are really into a game can spend time on that thread. I have enough trouble uni-tasking.

It seemed to me there was a great deal of off ball contact that sent MU players flying to the ground and no whistles. Almost like an increased level of physical contact is being tolerated as the season progresses.

The Big East finesse offenses (Marquette and Creighton) are allowed to be fouled without calls while the bully ball offenses are rewarded. PC has the highest offensive free throw rate (32.0%) in conference play while MU is last (21.6%), for example. This is not new.

What irritates me more is that we spend a lot of time in the paint. We have watched games where we have 50+ paint points and other team has half that yet we have considerable more fouls called. Some  if it is our pressure D, but does not explain all of the discrepancy.

Because our D tends to use hands a lot, that gets called more than bodies being used, BE....

Actually MUs defensive ft rate is in the lower third. UCONN's defensive FTR is north of 40% as they protect the rim at all costs (and can with their size and physicality).

Better than lower third,  54th best in the country (85th percentile). We're very good at defending without fouling.

But we're 324th in offensive FTR (10th percnetile). It is impressive with how much we score in the paint but it's misleading. Us scoring in the paint so often is due to our efficiency there (14th in 2P%) rather than our attempts (298th in 2PA/FGA). We shoot a lot of threes and a lot of the twos we get are wide open with no contact
