Kansas can't possibly be any good.  I read in the game thread this team stinks and to say sayonara to the season and Kansas lost to said team.

And, really, performing in it about as well as Chase. I know it's small sample but any comparative advanced metrics?

5 of our anemic number of rebounds came from Zaide.    He is going to be good.

Yep. Today alone, one Scooper said he "hates" Stevie, and another compared Stevie to "dung." It's only a matter of time before Zaide is similarly appreciated.

Great win! Very difficult to win at the Garden against a physical, scrappy, in your face on both sides of the ball team. I was pretty drunk but it sure seemed like we pulled away and held on. When we were down two, I felt like it was ten, then we were up ten. So many ranked teams lost recently, barely .500 record, so while I would prefer the killer mentality at the end, a win is a win.

By the way, if ever in Key West, Jack Flats is the move. Basically there from 12pm til 11pm, lots of MU fans, was really a great place to watch the game. I'm not a Packer fan, but there were a lot of Wisconsin degenerates living it up. Super fun.

It takes balls to run a designed play for a three point shot straight out of halftime after you went 0/11 in the first half from distance.

Love having a coach and players with balls.

Yep, I mentioned that in another thread. And it was such a perfect move. That single play - and made 3 by Joplin - set the tone for the entire victory. It's good coaching.

Some have a romanticized view of last season - like we won every game easily. We didn't - we played St. John's 3x and we struggled mightily to beat them. After the second of those - the opener of the BET - lots of Scoopers were predicting a loss to UConn even though they had seen MU overcome adversity all season.

The injury to Kolek did us in last season, and now two major injuries are testing this team. Considering everything - with a shooting slump thrown in - I'm pretty darn happy with the resolve of this team so far.

Apparently wins are not that impressive to some here if they think the team should have done better.  ::) "Physical, scrappy, in your face " sums it up nicely. While SJ got hammered in NJ, this same team traveled to UCONN and stayed even with them until the last 1-2 minutes when UCONN solidified a modest lead for good. Marquette fans bitching about a win is ridiculous.

I think Tower is saying 40% is liekly a guarenteed win,  29% is likely a guarenteed loss, and in between those two points could go either way.

That's not that far off from being 100% accurate this season

It's all relative - if we should 29% from 3 and they shoot 20% we'll win. In fact, if venture to say that if we shoot a better % than them from 3 we will win

Any road win in the BE is a good win. They are not all going to be pretty. Winning ugly is ok. And, I have no doubt that Tyler and Stevie were gassed at the end of the game. Tre Norman has a real opportunity here, and we really need him to seize the moment. Tyler and Stevie cannot keep playing that many minutes.

The return of Chase will help.   If Tre doesn't step up, Kam or Stevie run the point for 8 minutes a game and Chase and Zaide play 15-18 each.

Shaka on Stevie:

"Man, he just brings a level of intensity. Intensity, disruption for the other team. He just plays all out.

"It was important today because we were struggling on offense and he kind of took it upon himself to get to the paint and make something happen. He also in the second half, went out and got some layups for us, which was huge.

"His energy, his intensity, the way he rubs off on his teammates. And then you can put Stevie on any opposing great player. He might not shut them down, but he's going to make things challenging. He's going to continue to fight."

If only Shaka knew as much about basketball as the permanently perturbed williewampum does.

Kam as a fill in? Yes. Has a pretty good handle and moves the ball.

But I would dread having to have Stevie play point. He doesn't even want to bring the ball up court. And I say that as a huge fan of Stevie.

It would be similar to when Mark Anglavar was asked to play point and break the press. The only good that came of that was that it brought us Tony Miller.

Big Papi

Quote from: Juan Anderson's Mixtape on January 20, 2024, 03:26:25 PM
1.  Tale of 2 halves:  0-11 3FG to 6-9 3FG.

2.  Shaka and Pitino both coached very well.  A constant chess match of coaching adjustments.

3.  Played our best ball of the season to build the lead and our worst to almost give it away.

4.  Won anyway.

5.  Gold's defense I'm the first half was fantastic.  Very active hands and feet.  2 steals.

6. But his shot is very flat right now.  Low release point.  Is he rushing?  When Gold shoots with a higher release point, he tends to make a lot more.

7.  Zaide and Lowery continue to grow.  Nice D, great dunk, and a made 3.

8.  Stevie was great.  His usual strong defense and some much needed offense.  Great job driving and finishing.

9.  Jolp and Cam [sic] weren't great but had their moments.

10.  Kolek and Oso pick and roll is so special.  Both execute it at an NBA level.  That's a big part of their NBA appeal.

11.  Turnovers, mental mistakes, and poor FT shooting nearly cost us.  But I repeat, won anyway.

12.  Take every win and run!!!

Great analysis.

1. Zaide is turning the corner and getting more minutes.  Great to see and is needed.
2. Tre is still struggling and didn't deserve any more minutes than what he received yesterday.
3.  Ben did look better defensively yesterday.  Foot speed looked better around the basket.  When he is on an island guarding a quicker perimeter player, what do you expect.  His shot is way too flat.  He needs to work on more arc asap because its not working at all.
4. Missed free throws all game long almost cost us the game.  Nothing to do with being tired.

We become too MU focused and sometimes spew negativity or hateful comments.  I think for some the bar they set for this team is way too high so the frustration levels are sky high when we dont win or look convincing.  We had a magical year last year but still had some struggles.

Widen the view and look around the landscape and you will see the following:
1. Yea UCLA is not aging well but Texas is.  Really doesn't matter, a win is a win.
2. Creighton had 3 players play 53 minutes yesterday and Scheierman played 55 minutes.  And they won.  Tyler choked in the moment.  It is what it is.
3. Kansas gave up 3 offensive rebounds in the last minute of a game they were trailing and lost to West Virginia of all teams.  Granted it was on the road.  Road games are tough.

I think there are a lot of good teams this year who can make it to the final game.  Even if with all are warts, we are one of them.  I think things are slowly turning around from our month long slump.

Now lets go beat the snot out of Depaul.

Scoop Snoop

The only point I disagree with you on Papi is "a win is a win". The value of winning our game vs, UCLA is sinking as the season goes on. What will it be by Selection Sunday?
