....for it will be used going forward by the coaching staff to signify how Defense will be what gets us W's when our shooting is off. As Jay Wright also touched upon, not just the D, but not changing your game plan just because early shots didn't fall. Trust. Relationships.

No can do, it will be remembered forever for the poor CBS feed quality for a few scoopers...

I'm sure the many references to the terrible stream quality annoyed people who weren't having.....how frustrating it was with the feed jumping forward 5 seconds of action...  an issue.  But unless you experienced it, you wouldn't believe ...., instantly changing from an offensive possession...in reverse, showing the same play a second time.....  to a defensive possession without seeing the ball dribbled up the court.  Then a minute later it jumping 5 seconds

Did I hear correctly that Creighton did not have a single offensive rebound in the second half?

Defense will be this program' s calling card and only going to be become more important.

Goose. Great win for the problem. Truth be told, the way Creighton came out of the gate was actually how I felt we would open the game. The fact that we knew what would get us going, our D, and to never waver from belief in each other....this is the kind of game both the coaching staff and the players will draw upon so much going forward. And when the shots start falling, the belief in how far we can go will only grow.

wasn't creighton mentioned as being a national leader with fewest turnovers?  i believe they had more in the first 10 minutes than they normally have for a whole game-thought it was something like that, but regardless, what a tribute to our defense.  we just wear the opponent down physically and mentally

anyone notice the very vocal and obnoxious HOOT as our players were releasing free throws?  i'm sure most players don't even hear that, but kam, an 80% + free throw'er bricked what could have been a dagger one & one.  consequently heard the same thing while oso calmly sank 2 and tk sank his 2, so never mind ;)

if i go into someone elses place and tried to do that, me thinks after the 2nd or 3rd one, i'd be lucky to get out of the place with all of my body parts intact...it's only a game though, eyn'a?

You were right on. I don't care much for stats, but my eyes tell me this is becoming an elite defense. Last year I thought our offense was extremely good, especially when shooting well and I am more impressed with the D this year vs the offense of last year.

ATWizJr

At least for one day, we have become a rebounding dynamo!!

Agreed GFAW.

Going to have to hit 3's...that said...love our program.

MuggsyB

It think it was an important win in light of the fact that our top 3 didn't play particularly well.  That said we need to get out of the gates far more quickly.  I also believe we're thinking a bit too much in lieu of launching without hesitation.  I also have some doubts about Creighton being an assumed top 4 in our conf .

Nice win by Marquette.
Let us see what happens in Omaha in March.

Our defense is way ahead of our offense this year, agreed.  Very inconsistent shooting and the flow/motion seem way off this year vs. last.

On another note, who would you rather have shooting clutch free throws, Oso or Kam?  I'm going Oso.

Goose

Oso on free throws. As for the offense, I will take this defense over last year offense for the next 3+ months. This is not just playing hard on defense, it is thing a beauty watching the different schemes, the intense pressure the whole possession and hard to scout great defense.

For being a generally good FT shooter, Kam Jones has been noticeably poor in tight late game situations.

Feels that way to me as well...needs to get to Kolek at the end.

I agree. While the defense misses OMax, all of the other rotation players have another year of experience in Shaka's system under their belts. It shows.

On offense, Jop is a better shooter than OMax, but our flow/motion suffers some with him in there.

GoFastAndWin

In addition to his D, Stevie is back to replacing OMax's energy and encouragement factor as well. Sean, Jop, Oso, and Stevie all led in the EGBs category today. Kolek and Kam made just the right shorter shots and layins  at just the right time. Fans with the good timing as well, knowing just how massive the possessions were on D.

Daniel

Was a great win after a very shaky start.   We are not moving the ball as crisply as we did in the beginning  of the year.  Don't k ow why.  There were a couple of possessions where the ball moved around the horn just right, and the rebound Gold saved that Kam scored on after good ball movement.    But something is odd about it....

We played a much better 2H but it's pretty rare to win against a seemingly good opponent shooting under 38% and 27% from distance.  The O rebounding was huge today and generally hasn't been a major part of our repertoire.  Good teams find ways to win but I would really like to see us find our A game offensively.

Kam isn't 80 percent plus from the free throw line.  Can you please share your source for this statistic?  Mine says he's a career 68% shooter from the stripe and 77% this season.  In fact, I don't have much faith in him late in games at the free throw line.  As a sharp shooting guard he should be much more trustworthy on free tosses from 15 feet!

GoFastAndWin

Another great thing about making this game a rallying cry in future games where we aren't shooting lights out... not only the Defense being our calling card, but also, the stick-to-game plan thing and continuing to shoot and trust in your shot. The continued success of the stifling defense on every late-first-half and second half possession led to taking pressure off our shooters. They knew it was just a matter of time until shots started falling. Make that many stops (and of course grab some O rebounds) and you don't need to shoot 80% in the 2nd half.
