I recall one play where TK was shoved with two hands while he was shooting and it wasn't called.

Also, there were at least two goaltending calls that were missed.
Have some patience, FFS.

I agreed with you on the travel until the slow mo. He was in his dribble by the next step. Illini fans however think this was the greatest injustice of the entire game on the reddit thread.

Interesting! I will have to go look at the slow mo. Either way, MU took a punch in the face from a VERY physical team and held up. Which is damn encouraging going forward.

I might be biased, but that's what I thought on the review. But I got reading glasses for the first time last week, so I might not be as eagle-eyed as I used to be.

Agree! It's nice that this team doesn't shrink when there's a physical team facing us. The guys seem to rise to the occasion.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Great game last night...though I am surprised with the lack of conversation about the refs.  Illinois was big, fast, long, but still the refs were letting them bag around last night.  Kinda felt like a late '80s NBA game.  There was a rebound that Sean was going for in the second half that the a Illinois player grabbed him by both shoulders to hold him back.  A ton of over the backs, and though they were "good" hustle plays a few of the blocks on fastbreaks could have been called as well.

Compare this Pat Driscoll game to that travesty at Providence last year. That's all I'll say as I have been put on a "Pat Driscoll Complaint" hold this season.

I thought the refs were just fine last night.  I thought Kam's layup that got called as a foul on the floor could've been an and-1, I agree with the Kolek layup that he got shoved in the back and missed the layup should've been a foul, and I remember the Sean Jones rebounding play.  But if there were only 3 calls I can think of that I thought the refs missed, and one was called a foul just not the way I thought it should've been, the refs were pretty good.  They let a lot of physical play go, but it was both ways and I'd much prefer that to a whistle fest.

Agree. They were consistent which is the best answer. Having watched a number of games this season, I am liking the changes in the legal guarding position rules. The flops on every possession were ruining the game. See my Driscoll comment.

PGsHeroes32

Yeah I loved last nights officiating.

I laughed at the no call when TK was clearly shoved on a drive but it fit the let them play theme.

Refs were consistent. It wasnt a whistle fest. Only way to have guys in foul trouble(like Kam for some of the 1st half) was to be unlucky in that the few calls happen to be on the same guys.

We were a little off our game around the rim as is, imagine if there was zero flow as well due to whistles.

The refs were fine. I do think it would have advantaged us had they called it tighter but it was pretty even both ways. A few frustrating calls but it was Pat Driscoll, so what can you expect?

They missed a possible goaltending and absolutely missed a 10 second call in favor of Illinois, but other than that it was fine I thought.

I completely agree with this. I also completely disagree with those saying MU brought their C game.

They won on the road against a ranked team that was both long and physical. You don't do that with your C game. That is an insult to the jobs that ShAka and the players did.

tower912

Yes.  It is fine to admit the other team is good and that their strategies may have impacted how your team played.

Might've even been two goaltending calls, and they had to really hack Oso to get him to the line. Some other interior bumps that weren't called, but ultimately okay.

MU82

I'm sure Illinois fans think the most egregious missed call was what looked like a pretty obvious travel on Kolek after catching an inbounds pass in the final minute.

If any of you have 15 minutes to kill, this Illinois message board game thread is a treat to read through.

They were in complete awe of Marquette last night. Cool to read an outside perspective while recalling what portion of the game they are commenting on.

Kolek in German means "Jordan." Sheesh.

I'd like to have a transition offense like Marquette.

This team in yellow appears to be pretty gosh darn good.  We need to pay attention to details on defense.

Wow, Marquette is good. They're as good as Kansas, for sure.

Tyler Kolek could win a NC for this squad.

Seems rational compared to a scoop game thread.

Probably due to the lack of badger trolls.

There is also a "Kolek NPOY!?" comment in there. :)

It is OK to acknowledge the opponent is good and playing well.

Another good one was "this team looks as good as Kansas" for those worrying.

Well crap.  I've heard Kansas doesn't have great shooters.  Now I'm really worried.

The refs let them play, which I am totally for as compared to Jeff Anderson blowing his whistle every 5 seconds. MU got away with some calls as well; the near end of game inbounds pass to Kolek was a travel. I think it all evened out.
Anything is better than " Mr. High Knees" reffing the game.
