Sultan cracks me up all the time.   Subtle greatness.

Good guy with a gun shot at him 7 times and missed.  He also stole a gun.  That’s why you should always properly store your guns

The NYT article about the capture, re-caps the escape with this paragraph:

To make a break for it, the 5-foot tall prisoner crab walked between two walls in the prison exercise yard, following a route that another prisoner had used in May. He then pushed through razor wires — which had been installed after the previous breakout attempt — and fled across the roof, over a fence and through more razor wire to freedom. A week into the manhunt, the prison fired a corrections officer who had been stationed in a watchtower but failed to see Mr. Cavalcante break out.

Obviously, small prisoners will always be an escape risk. So any criminal Muggsy's height or shorter must either be held permanently in solitary confinement or executed. I mean, what other choice is there to protect society?

If it was the dogs, they should get their picture with him instead of the SWAT team

Canines can play a very important role in these situations.

They'll never admit it, but the cops brought in that otter you wrote about that was attacking people and it scared the crap out of the guy, so he surrendered. Of course, the SWAT team is taking the credit. Damn humans!

Sort of. They found his position about 1:00 in the morning using thermal technology.  They couldn’t converge overnight due to severe weather, but kept a force surrounding where he was hiding.

When they moved in this morning, they caught him by surprise and he tried escaping through thick brush. But a dog prevented him from getting away.  He was treated for a minor bite injury.

No shots fired.  Great news.

UNC locked down for the second time in 3 weeks due to an "armed and dangerous" person on campus. They caught the perpetrator fairly quickly and an all-clear was issued. Unlike the previous incident, in which a professor was murdered by one of his students, nobody was known to be injured this time.

https://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/crime/article279293124.html#storylink=cpy

From the article:

Elizabeth Thompson, a former News & Observer intern and research associate in the journalism school, was on a Zoom call in Carroll Hall Wednesday, explaining to the person on the other end that she “was finally starting to feel normal” after the shooting incident.

“Then 30 minutes into the meeting we got another alert,” she said in a text message to The N&O, as she sat under the desk in her office. There were other people on the same floor as her, but she was alone, Thompson said.

She started to hear police sirens and helicopters as soon as the alert went out, she said. She immediately texted her family and began to “get a deluge of texts from friends checking in.”

“I can tell you this is the second time in three weeks I’m spending the afternoon under my desk,” she said. “It’s so surreal.”

Some years ago, there was an armed escapee who was hiding in a deeply forested area very late in the day who was located by thermal technology. We were scared because he was only about 1/4 mile from us, but the sheriff's department went to all nearby homes and explained to people what was going on. They pretended to leave for the night, but secretly left plenty of officers hidden around the wooded area and knew exactly where the guy was. They explained the obvious- going into woods at night to apprehend the guy, especially when they had pinpointed him, was just too risky. At first light, he was caught.

Looks more than just a minor bite injury. I hope the dog gets a tetanus  shot and is up to date on his rabies vaccine and is thoroughly checked out by a vet after biting that guy.

Nice!  Hopefully that pup is compensated with a ribeye and an assortment of treats.

All the SWAT guys dressed up like the US military and it only took a single dog to bring him down.

What's the lesson here? ;D
