Homer and Tony Show No More
« on: September 01, 2023, 12:30:45 PM »
Saw ESPN Wisconsin has relegated Homer to an hour a day and he won’t be working with T. Smith daily, beginning 9/11.
I enjoy their conversations with Jason Wilde everyday. You could tell it was a touchy subject on Wilde and Tausch Wednesday 10 am hour.
Wondering if their MU partnership is long for this world. Tony offered some perspective as a professional athlete but seemed argumentative and condescending a lot of the time I’d listen to them together.

How will this world survive with less Homer?

It will be quite the Odyssey without him.

Hopefully this means a new analyst for radio. Tony knows his stuff but he talks over the action all the time.

No non alum has done more for the University and #mubb than Homer.

George counted him as a best friend and he was extremely tight with Al.

He’s been an incredible ambassador for the program.  We are extremely fortunate to have him.

Could it be that Homer is now in his upper 60’s and wanted to scale back to an hour a day?

At one point sure. But not lately. Put him out to pasture.

Glad to hear. Need to separate the MU brand from Homer if we want to keep recruiting talent. He's alienated a lot of folks.

Based on his conversation on Wednesday he was not happy. Today was saying how he has no control over content/guests going forward.

I was with him this past Sunday evening.  I was at an event that was a Blue & Gold dinner auction item.  He wasn’t in the description of the event.  He didn’t have to be there.  He is very supportive of MUBB.  And an interesting conversationalist.

I agree…and imagine, Homer is a UW grad! I’ve always enjoyed his game call…often turn down the TV and turn up Homer, whether w/George, Mac or TSmith. I hope Homer continues calling games this season.

Homer is a great supporter of MU and I have enjoyed him being on the call for a long time. I hope he is around for as long as wants to do the games.

For all ewe naysayers, who'd rather have? Maybe Ueck's available? Steve's a great asset and ambassador for the Warriors, hey?

If he’s such an “asset,” why y’all think Homer doesn’t host Shaka’s coaches show any longer? Why do you think he’s been relegated to an hour on local radio?

There's a number of MU alums in prominent local TV and radio gigs. Sophia Minnaert and Jen Lada are both excellent, but neither does play by play.  However, if the MU comm school has produced those two, there's probably some alums with play by play experience too.

Homer is fine on the game call but his takes on his show are terrible.
