Not a surprise at all based on what I have read and heard about the Ivies the last decade.

The professors are lazy.  Teaching smart students is hard work.  This new wave of college students will make life easier for them.  More time to either do research or smoke weed.

The student is at Stanford, so yes he probably gets admitted to MU or St. Norbert's.

Getting into the Ivies is tough and it is not a meritocracy. Never has been. I read an article awhile ago and if I remember it correctly about 30% of Harvard students are legacies and another 10% percent or so are non-legacies whose parents have donated significant funds and another 20% are recruited athletes. With only about 2000 students getting admitted each year, and ~60% claimed by legacies, donors, and athletes, were only talking about ~800 spots for ~60,000 applicants (~1.3%).

Now I have no idea how this particular student stacked up but yeah, it's hard to imagine 800 other applicants had written two books. Maybe he blew his interview. Or maybe he should have gotten in. If he should have gotten in, maybe some of the angst should go towards the legacies, donor's kids, and athletes?

Nope. Always criticize attempts to diversify with minorities. Never criticize a policy that rolls out the gold carpet for rich legacies and rich kids of rich donors.

Rich people pay the freight so the poor kids can attend. That's how the world works.

Some rich people even pay the freight by illegally paying off coaches, administrators and others to get their unqualified kids into top colleges? But hey, who were rich people like Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman really hurting? In their own benevolent way, they were actually helping poor kids attend those schools.

can't the "loser husband' be eligible for NIL? there's got to be support groups for that.  thank you JB for not using the word "dumb" however because then we would have to assume said husband would be muscularly challenged as well and not sure they have NIL for that yet

Laughlin and Huffman were duped by educational embezzlers. If the two of them gave their funds directly to the Universities their kids would have been admitted and would have been no legal cases etc. Instead the coaches and facilitators took Laughlin and Huffmans funds directly for gain thus stealing from their employer .

Laughlin and her husband actually paid the going rate at the time for USC for bought off admission ($250,000 per kid ) they just paid to the wrong party.   Incremental cost of a student is far less than $250,000 hence if things were done properly a poor kid would have been subsidized by the process. Huffman was just cheap , thought $15,000 for faking a test score was a bargain.

By the way, herme talking like he knows that if you simply pay USC $250K your child is admitted to the school reminded me of him claiming he was with Quentin Grimes on his visit to MU, which then had me thinking that Big Daddy (RIP) said he would tell the Grimes story once Grimes was out of college.  Was it Big Daddy who stopped posting here and some poster was blaming someone else for why he was no longer around, only to have BD come back to lay the hammer down on the guy who was blaming someone else and explain that he was in fact the reason BD was no longer posting here?  Or am I thinking of something else?

I'm just glad they made it so poor kids could attend.
