He also talked about how he's grown most as a coach (and still working on) which is accepting that he cannot control everything. Referenced Jim Larranaga as the coach who does that best and a testament to why his team is still playing this weekend.

I think it means MU is moving to Division III.

Leave.
Are we going to use the portal?
Really don't know.  We have a tendancy to

Or we already had 3 guys put in the portal...but whatever you want to believe.

Well, he knows three are in the portal.   And he probably doesn't know what will happen regarding declaring for NBA.   So could be another two right?  Did we have 12 scholarship players?  I'd so, 3 iin portal 2 maybe trying out NBA .... 7 stay.  More stay than leave.

Only 1 guy has a shot at the NBA. And its long

Shaka's comments clearly shaded optimistic. I'd expect one or zero transfers from the rotation.

avid1010

Hard to take anything from that related to potential transfers...but Shaka getting carded at the bar is hilarious.

Probably true, but you never know what will happen.  Vander Blue, Lewis - you never know wha5 advice they will get.  I'm just saying maybe Shaka does not know either so he had to sensitize his comments

I don't think Shaka is worried about the NBA...

True. And some guys just don't like college. I'd guess 99% of guys know where they are (or are not) slotted in the draft and are not surprised by not being drafted; they are just done with school.

Even OMax—the "one guy" we think could go—doesn't have as good of prospects as Lewis did. He's probably somewhere between Lewis and Vander in terms of feasible path to the NBA.

The only other player with even a Vander-level prayer of making it within the next two years is Oso, and he seems like a very level-headed guy who wouldn't be likely to overrate his path to the pros. Between that and NIL incentives, I'd be shocked if he went.

I think Shaka will have a rather easy task of getting top level replacements if/when transfers occur. A larger concern to me is what Goose has written about at length and Shaka has relentlessly talked about-the culture. Even if new guy(s) have the right attitude, it simply takes time for relationships to gel. That and the new guy(s) ability to anticipate teammates' moves and playing styles.
Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

I would disagree with that.

OMax is taller, better with the ball, better shooter, better defender.

I think OMax has a chance to get drafted whenever it is that he decides to enter.

Disagree that OMax was clearly a better shooter. Lewis was also a better scorer and rebounder.

I have no idea if Omax will have a longer, or better, pro career than Lewis, but he is definitely a far better prospect, imo. He has all of the ingredients to be a very good pro player and time will tell how it plays out.

tower912

Physically, OMax is exactly what the NBA looks for.  Fast, can defend 5 positions, can dribble with both hands, run the floor.
All he needs is to shoot a little better from 3, finish a little better through contact, and stay upright better.   8th man in a rotation somewhere.

brewcity77

I think O-Max is definitely a better NBA prospect. Everyone in the NBA can play offense, but O-Max is a better athlete, longer, and a much better and more mobile defender than Justin. They are pretty similar in terms of three-point efficiency. And from a body perspective, I think Justin's thickness may have worked against him. Not a lot of 6'7", 245 pound guys in the league.
