I was talking with my son this morning and he asked when the last time MU had a bigger regular season win. Curious on thoughts because I was stumped on giving an answer. Everything about last night made the win special to me. Big time opponent, insane crowd and ton on the line. Hopefully some of you have bigger wins to discuss.

I'm not going to say bigger because we would be comparing apples and oranges. With that said, the win over then #1 Nova is high on my list. It was the first regular season W over a #1 team.

Last night's W set us up to win sole possession of first place as well as possibly moving us up a seed line, so comparing the two is not legit in my opinion.

I can't recall one on the road since at Louisville in 2003.

Since the days of Dukiet and KO, I can't think of a bigger regular season win than this.  Yes, we beat #1 Nova but that was at home and it didn't mean nearly as much as last night's game.

They played like Warriors in every sense of the word last night.  That image of Shaka jumping at the buzzer should be a poster sold in the campus spirit shop.

I would put Vander's last second layup in MSG to clinch the 2013 regular season title up there. I would also put the upset of Nova up there as well.

It was a big win, but no one remembers "the win before the win".  No one points out the big win @ Rutgers in 2013, or UAB in 2003.

Beating #1 Nova is up there.
Syracuse in 2013 when Davante went off.
The comeback at Freedom Hall in 2003.

I think the biggest since Vander's layup against St John's. We have had some nice wins since then, but I don't think any that raise to this level. Tough environment with the Conference Title in the balance and we come away with the win. I hope we have a bigger one in the coming weeks being a clinching win.

UConn January 3, 2006 has to be up there. First game in the Big East. UConn #2 in the country. Set the tone for MU in the Big East and proved we could compete. Novak completely went off.

I said our win last week against X was up there for me as being a top regular season win in the last 20 years. Funny how this one overshadows that quickly.

I was at the game in NYC when Vander hit the last shot and I actually got to touch the trophy lol so that was a special one for me.

Was also fortunate to be at the (#1) Nova win and it was an awesome game as well. Thought that one gave the Wojo program some big momentum. Obviously it didn't turn out well, but I didn't know that at the time.

I'd put last night at the top though for at least the last 20 years. It feels like the program took a major step forward last night. There's a lot to be excited about not only in the next few weeks but in the years to come.

This win probably gave us the BE title. Random great wins don't compare in any way.

Assuming we take care of business in our next 3, this is by far the biggest.  Vander's layup was obviously huge, but it was a much worse opponent and it was to share the Big East title.  This win very well might be the difference between sharing a title with at least 1 other team (and quite possibly 2), or winning the Big East title outright.

Plus, this year's team has better computer numbers and the journey they've taken to get the title has been incredible.

I thought of this one, as well. That was a special night and I agree it felt like validation that we could make the big step. Obviously the significance of last night outweighs it if it leads to a conference title, but that UConn game was definitely way up there on my list of sporting events I attended.

Vander in the Garden  would be it for me. I was at the Garden and the atmosphere was electric . Probably a quarter of those in attendance were from MU.

The 2013 season was an enormous achievement for MU. That version of the Big East was easily the best conference in all of basketball. Here is the records to refresh memory.

I stratify regular season wins in the following fashion:

IMO any regular season games when you cut down the nets afterwards are the biggest
- 2003 CUSA clincher at home over Cincinnati
- Vander's buzzer beater layup at the Garden to beat the Johnnies to win the Big East in 2013

Regular season games that made the above championships possible
- 2013 had a bunch of games that can fall here.  The biggest one was probably beating Syracuse at home, but they also swept Pitt and beat Georgetown at home.
- 2003 Comeback at Freedom Hall with Diener's free throws and scream to seal the W, 12 days after getting our hearts ripped out by Reece Gaines
If they take care of business in the final 3 games, last night's win will be in this category.

Games in seasons that didn't result in championships but were still huge or otherwise notable (in no order)
- 3 Amigos 77-74 OT win at #6 Pitt in 2007
- First Big East regular season beating #2 UConn at the BC
- Novak draining a corner fall away bomb, almost buzzer beater to beat Notre Dame at the BC in 2006
- 61-60 win at West Virginia in 2012 when Buzz danced to Country Roads on the logo then almost got murdered by hillbillies on live TV
- Comeback to Beat #1 Nova 74-72 at the BC in 2017

I'm sure there are many others and my memory doesn't go back as far as some.

I went to this game as a Junior in High School and a UConn fan.  Look at me now.  This game literally changed my entire life.

Love that list. I'd add the Wardle 3-point buzzer beater at Louisville in 1998 to the bottom list, punctuated with Mike Deane pumping his fist at half court and the crowd jeeering at home as he walked off the court. One of the best road wins for a long time up until that point.

Lots of favorites especially Whitehead's basketball in the semis of 1977, but my all time fav was Al jumping on the scorers table with the Twins father saying we were number 1, in the win over the rodents. Probably too old for many to remember. That was an awesome nite.

Vander at the Garden immediately comes to mind, but I'd also put #1 Villanova up there. We didn't know at the time we'd lose 4 of the next 5, but it pretty much guaranteed a tourney bids after 3 years on the outside and it was big for the program.

While it's hard to isolate one, I would also point to the 2010 overtime road games. We won three straight on the road in OT at Cincy, St. John's, and Seton Hall and that got us to the tourney in what was supposed to be a rebuilding year.

Others that come to mind are the 2002 and 2003 Cincinnati wins (breaking 20-game winning streak, guaranteeing CUSA outright title) and the 2006 UConn win.
