Is it bad when the baseless, racist rumors you amplify have real-world consequences?

Do we know if it's bad if you and the local neo-Nazi group are both amplifying the baseless, racist rumors? Is that bad?

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-fringe-online-claim-immigrants-eating-pets-debate-trump-rcna170759
"Blood Tribe, a national neo-Nazi group, was among the early purveyors of the rumor in August, posting about it on Gab and Telegram, social networks popular with extremists. While the group's leader has taken credit for Trump's indulgence of the claims, Blood Tribe's reach is unknown; its accounts on those sites have fewer than 1,000 followers."

Years ago, Mike Royko wrote a column for the Sun-Times about how things were done in Springfield, IL -- bribery!

A couple of weeks later, women who supported ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment actually tried to bribe an Illinois legislature, taking Mr. Royko's advice to heart.

Should Mr. Royko have been indicted for conspiracy to commit bribery? Of course not (even thought my Dad thought so)!

Same here. If someone is stupid enough to phone in or otherwise make a threat against a public school, it's their stupidity. A political candidate can say something stupid but if he or she doesn't commit the act, or openly conspire to encourage someone to do it, it aint their fault.

Period.

Regardless of party, political philosophy or social bent!

Yes, when you baselessly rile up the hate in supporters to the point that they make terroristic threats to elementary schools, you bear no responsibility. In fact, you should double and triple down.

Yes, indeed.

Yes, indeed.

I didn't say that either.

Last time I checked, the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America didn't have a stupidity limitation.

I also learned in Roman Catholic schools that God gave us all a free will. We were give logic and insight to guide us. Both are part of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. If someone elects to ignore wisdom, understanding and knowledge, it's their problem. But it is not a violation of federal or state law.

This is such an insincere rationalization, dgies.
And who said anything about indictments?

Muggsy, this has always been your thread. Man up and save it from the political discussions here. I think you and I can agree that we do not want to see the thread go rockylocky.

How about your comments on the story about an orca tossing a baby seal 70-80' in the air? Or maybe you could reply to my question regarding which is more "unfortunate"-the mauling of the small boy or the killing of the mountain lion that attacked him?
Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

More River Otter Attacks
https://nypost.com/2024/09/13/us-news/river-otter-drags-child-underwater-attacks-family-at-marina/

Glad that they will be trapped and taken out. Enough silly-ass talk about animals that attack being angry, frustrated, sending us "messages"  ::) ::) etc. in an attempt to excuse their attacks. There are plenty of animal species that co-exist with humans in urban settings. Better to trap and relocate river otters now rather than trapping them after an attack.

I'm guessing you did not bother to read the entire article that Herman attached. It also referred to the 8 otters that attacked the jogger in Malaysia and a kayaker that was attacked by otters that she described as "vicious and malicious". About half of one of her ears was chewed off and she was airlifted to the hospital for treatment of other injuries.

So, the otter overreacted, huh? Really "unfortunate", don't you think? Let the little guy go. He realizes his error and is truly sorry for what he did.

Edit: You stated that the otter overreacted. Your typical M.O. is "I said it, therefore it is true". Got anything else besides that to back up your certitude that the otter overreacted? Are you communicating with it telepathically?   ;D

We have river otters all over the place down here. In our old house, we would see them migrate through our yard from a neighborhood pond to the Indian River.

In our current house, we see them less so. Far less attractive than sea otters.
