Any insight? On Shaka?

Didn't see anything live or when I watched when I got home.

Jay Bee

Guessing the horses hit call on Jop

It was on Shaka.  He was barking at the official after the Joplin foul as they headed into the TV Timeout.  He T'd him up and pointed at Shaka right outside the huddle....not sure why they said it was a "bench technical" when play resumed.

It seemed Shaka was more upset about the lack of call on Tyler's drive to the basket just prior to the call on Jop.

WheatonMU

Agreed, probably upset about both to be honest.  No call for Tyler then a call on Jop immediately after.

Ellenson Guerrero

Shaka followed Pat Driscoll around after a no call on our end and a body contact foul on the other end. Shaka wasn't super heated but he just kept walking after Driscoll for like 30 seconds; it was pretty funny actually and looked intentional on Shaka's part.

Driscoll has fallen quite a bit on the quality of his game.  He was working baseline and the Butler player had a foot past the end line with the ball but his vision was on the MU defender.  Atrocious miss. The game has passed him by.

Shaka was making a statement to him remembering the Providence away game debacle.

People within his earshot may have suggested he retire....more that once. ;D

General rule of thumb, if you know an official by name, they probably suck.

Hess, Burr, Driscoll, etc.

Actually looking at it now, if your name ends in double consonants youre destined to be a bad official.

MUfan12

Even though he had that weird penchant for the double technical, I thought Driscoll had been pretty good in recent years, but man has he been bad this year.

I still get to login with the name "theburreffect"

Shaka was right to be pissed but hard to blame Driscoll for T'ing him up. He told Shaka to get back to the huddle and Shaka kept following him.

I don't know if I am imagining this or not, but in several games this years, it seems like the  officials are calling the game completely different in the 2nd half than in the 1st.

Zero consistency.

I agree. They let them play in the first half then call everything in the second.

This has been going on for years. I am not sure if this is correct, but I believe the refs have a halftime meeting to discuss the first half and what they need to change based on how the game is being played. For example, if they feel the game is getting too physical, they will decide to call more fouls in the second half.

I think that this is just college basketball in a nutshell.

I think this sounds right.  They are getting a feel for the game as well in the first half and will push back if it's getting too physical or chippy. But what I don't like is when it's too ticky tack. Obvious bumps that lead to a ball handler being off balance should be called.  Two hands on a ball handler should be called but sometimes after half if you graze the ball handlers jersey lightly it's a foul and the refs are going too far to correct the physical nature of the game.

Driscoll has been atrocious his entire career, I can't stand it when I see him in the building for a game.

If that's true, they must have skipped the meeting in Prov, cuz they sucked in the first half and only got worse as the game went on. The PC home court advantage is all theater.
