Screw it. Got tix a few mins ago. Driving up from Chicago now for this. Should be a fun one.  At least better than listening to Gillen
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Novak

I ran into Steve Novak and family at the Spirit Shop this afternoon.

He will not be at the game.  He has to fly to Atlanta to work in studio.

Breakout game for MU and getting over the hump. We win this one. I hope Hurley goes off and gets tossed.

I agree across the board. Up and over the hump and hopefully Hurley gets crazy.

Jonny Fanta was supposed to be here tonight.

"Was supposed to be at #6 UConn and #25 Marquette tonight, but the FAA had other ideas! That said, will be watching everything happening on a loaded night of college hoops and then hosting After Dark at 11 ET with two of America's favorite people."

Good job JB!
Going with one daughter, my other daughter will be in student section, and co worker up from Chicago (whose daughter recently graduated from MU) is using my other ticket. Should be fun!

Doc,

I take great pride on knowing my MU history, but the last post has me stumped. A little help?

Steve Novak

These next 3 games are all going to be challenging, and will go a long way toward determining MUs position in the conference standings.

The BE has kind of separated itself into two groups: the 5 teams that are legitimate NCAA contenders (X, PC, UConn, MU, and Creighton) and the 6 spoilers (which includes Villanova unless and until they show otherwise. The 8 games against the other 5 contenders present the only opportunities for high quality wins.

Including the game at Seton Hall that comes next, MU would be doing well to split the next 4 games. I would be quite happy if they can split the next two.

hawk

I think MU wins 1 of the nest 3 but they could win them all.  Most interested in Joplin and Gold.  Joplin has been going to the hoop more of late and that is a big help.  I thought Gold had a really good night v Georgetown against a couple of really big guys.  If he can be a solid 15 minutes per game guy he could be the missing piece for MU.  Go Warriors!

willie warrior

Think Novak had about 43 in that game. He was awesome.

Hoping we Bayloranate UConn.

Think it was 41 but awesome was the word!  Was a magical game to be at.  I was there!

If MU wins  and somebody flips off the UConn coach infront of everybody, how about this for a thread title.....

I think you're not giving their guards enough respect here. Newton is very good at creating for others (though he has a TO problem) and is elite at drawing fouls and getting to the line.

Jackson is an elite defender and has somehow turned into a great distributor (he's always been good for a wing but now he's top 10 in the conference). His shooting leaves something to be desired his passing and defending more than make up for it.

Hawkins is a very good defender (look what he did to poor Trey Alexander in his last game) and is a top 3 3P shooter in the conference. I've watched him a couple of times and he has that Markus Howard release where he can go from dribbling to shooting in the blink of an eye (often drawing a foul in the process). To be clear, I am not saying he's Markus Howard, I'm saying he has a release as quick as Howard.

Diarra and Allenye are both plus defenders off the bench and Calcaterra shoots 45.3% from 3.

I think all of their guards do at least one thing "great" and do most things well. Each of them does have a fatal flaw that can be exploited though (Newton's TOs, Jackson's shooting, Hawkins is poor inside the arc, Allenye/Diarra are poor on offense, Calcaterra can't defend)

10/31, 4/17 from 3, 15 asst (6 from Jackson) and 7 turnovers.

Maybe it's an off night, and maybe it's just MUs guards stellar defense, but if UConn's season ends early it'll be because this collection of "guards" need to be better.

Hurley needs to tighten up the rotation and find an alpha or 3 amongst this group methinks

MU82 mentioned Ross possibly having a big game, and I think we need him to defensively.
I kind of like Sean Jones here though. I like him against organized/big defenses that lack in speed.
Marquette will have to out-speed them all night to win.

Lightning, speed. I am speed.

Did he really say that?  What does that even mean?  Does he know the overall record between the two schools? What a douche!

I think it means that we don't have the brand name players, which doesn't seem like a slight to me. We might not have a first team Big East player yet might also be the best team in the league.

MU82

Agree with brew that he didn't mean it as a slight ... but when I heard it, I did say "WTF?" because it sounded like a backhanded compliment.
