Quote from: swoopem on November 21, 2025, 08:22:27 AMMe and my friends do a golf trip every year. Next year we're doing Arcadia and then in 2027 trying to do sand valley. My friend who organizes it reached out to sand valley for availability a couple weeks ago and hasn't heard back. I know they're busy and it's tough to book but is this normal? Any idea how long it actually takes to get a response?

I typically get a response within a day from Sand Valley but haven't tried booking a trip there since reaching out in August of last year

Wouldn't surprise me if they were moving to a lottery system like Bandon Dunes.  I had to win the lottery to get the opportunity to get a stay and play there.

Weird. Ok, thanks. He reached out again the other day so hopefully they respond with some weekend options

Looking forward to it.  Sand Valley is the same.  Can't wait to get back and play The Commons and Sedge.  Walked part of Sedge last summer when it opened and it sure felt like the best of the layouts and that's saying something

How cold is too cold for you to golf?

I have golfed in snow.  For me, if the course is open, I will layer up and go walk 18.

I've always thought someone's "tolerable" golf conditions pretty much mirror their personal weather preferences, especially since it's such a mental experience, relaxing and finding peace in the course or otherwise.  People who enjoy or don't mind the cold weather will bundle up and swing as long as the course is open and clear.  People who like it hot don't mind sweating through a round.

Growing up in Wisconsin I played a ton of colder weather golf in the fall when courses slashed prices after the season and junior/high school golf was in the spring so you were playing as soon as you could in March onward, which in Wisconsin can be very dicey. I didn't care for it then but it's what I knew.  Now I can't stand it. I'll eventually do a UK golf trip with my son when he's older, but I didn't clamor to do it yet when I was younger cause though I love the history and scenery, cool weather and spitting rain is my golf nightmare.

I've played rounds in sweltering heat where I chug liquids during the round and swap to a dry shirt at the turn.  I'd rather that any day than 40s/low 50s with any sort of wind. Plenty of people would disagree, but it's all preference

If it's cold, I get on my private jet and go play somewhere warm like Seminole
