Some courses, due to the land on which they are built, have a half mile and a couple hundred feet of elevation between holes.  I played over 100 rounds of golf, 75% of them walking.     There are some courses that you look at and say 'nah, give me the cart.'

Not the easiest thing to say, but should a course have been built there then?

I’ll concede to special circumstances, such as Harbor Shores utilizing the old industrial corridor, but part of great architecture shouldn’t necessitate a cart. If you need a cart, did the course really fit the lay of land or is it overdone and forced?

I understand your point.   Then I think of the Northern Michigan courses that I have played that were built on the same topography as the adjoining ski resorts.   I am glad the courses are there and it is not practical to walk them.


Plus, the cart noise allows the Bigfoot to get out of sight.

I’m good with those, for the most part. Arnie’s course off Sugarfoot was lousy.

It’s why I love Sand Valley so much.  Not a golf cart in sight.  Pace of play enforced and never an issue.

Go to places that charge $150 or so to play with golf carts parking next to greens, wrong side of greens and on tee boxes and rounds taking 5+ hours.

The Loop was originally walking only.  And if ever there was a resort course to walk, it is the Loop.   They eventually gave into pressure and allowed carts.


I don't have heroes.   The closest I have come recently was a couple of years ago seeing an 80 year old golfer walking and pushing a cart.   I walked up to this complete stranger and told him I wanted to be like him when I grew up and that he was an inspiration.

His reply, "I've got to get in as many rounds walking as I can, because I am leaving for Florida soon and those a$$holes down there always make me take a cart."

I was playing a Milwaukee county course about 15 years ago.  It’s 95 and humid as hell.  I’m hungover as hell and plopped in a cart with a buddy of mine who is in the same predicament.  We get a single sent out with us.  It’s a guy about 80 plus with the bag umbrella and he’s walking.  I am thinking he’ll slow us down.

He not only outplays us, he informs us he was recently released from the hospital after heart surgery and his doctor told him to exercise but take it easy.  He walks 18 in the heat on a course with some up and down.

Continue to believe it is possible for him to win this year . He is only playing a handful of majors and his event at Riviera .

Here in Colorado, courses have to mandate carts or risk losing significant tee times (revenue) due to slow play of walking some of these courses. Also, some of you 'flat-landers' cant handle the lack of oxygen  .

Has anyone ever sent a Scotty Cameron back in for refinishing?  I've been kicking it around for a few years, but always worry it will change the putter. And I've had it in the bag for 20+ years.

  great question, sorry no one had an answer for you B.  i'm a stroke lab guy and my wife's scotty is only a year old, so too new for refinishing...i hope

The Aussie Open deserves more love from the world’s top golfers.  Tiger’s cash grab needs to move weekends.  Pretty disgraceful Jason Day is playing that.
