NEWS: #mubb forward Zach Wrightsil just announced via his Instagram that he will sit out the rest of the season and get surgery on his knee.

The former NAIA Player of the Year only played in three games this season, playing a total of 26 minutes.

The Sultan

Hmmm. Wonder about his second semester plans.

Bummed for Zach.  There goes what we were hoping would've been some quality depth at the forward position.  That's too bad.

Crap.   Good luck with the surgery and with all of your endeavors going forward.

All of like 20 total minutes with Marquette.

Dang. Really thought he could have contributed when healthy.

Get well!

So does this mean he'll redshirt? Will he play for Marquette next year?

Yeah, we're already one scholarship over for next year, so keeping him for another year would put us two over.  Unless we have some transfer turnover, there just isn't space for him next season.

Thanks.  If an opening happens, maybe Shaka can actually get a Division I transfer like Cooley did with Locke, Carter and Hopkins.  Best of luck to Wrightsil in his future.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Tough break.  Don't think what we saw on his 26 minutes was what we would get from a fully healthy Wrightsil. Will be interesting to see what happens with him next season.  Could be done with college ball, could transfer and try again,  or he could be here next season  (which would of course means we're losing an additional player).

Redshirt is a description of a player who participates for no more than zero seconds in a season. Therefore, he cannot redshirt this year.

Since we are being hyper-technical, the first sentence is incorrect. While the statement may be true as applied to basketball, it is not true when applied to football.

Pedantry for the win!

A player is eligible for a medical redshirt when he plays in less than 30% of games, before the season ending injury. He could transfer to another school or, if a scholarship is not available, pay his own way to stay at MU.

Honest question: When was the last time an MU basketball player with a role paid their own way for school?

Is this the Marquette football board? Let's cover lacrosse, rowing and tumbling while we're at it?

False!

Eligible for a hardship waiver. Another requirement is that the games played were in the front half of the year.
