So ... MU is hosting their biggest rival
And, per the ( generic ) emails they send, doing Nothing special for the game.  No promos , gold Tshirts... zip

Meanwhile, UW has rented out the
entire MECCA bar, and the area in front of FF for a big party / tailgate!  So we will all have to have this right in our face.

A win ( which I expect ) will make this easier to stomach

But as the kids say, the MU " marketing " department is TRASH

The Sultan

I mean, I can blame the marketing department for a lot of things, but they can't do much about UW renting out a venue. The game is sold out. The crowd will be hyped. What else do they need to do?  You save the big promos when you need the crowds. You don't need them today.

...and how many of those are Badgers? Could it be what WinTrust is to us Fiserv is to the Badgers? I live way out of state so I have really no idea.

It's the Badger's Super Bowl, you can't blame their fans. And, have you eaten at the Mecca? They'll be clogging FF's bathrooms by the first media time out.

Idk ...

I think something like an MU pep rally is a good idea.   It's just annoying that so little is done

Here's another.  They " honor "
George Thompson, which is great , at the Baylor game, but they don't promote it to anyone, they don't give out the
white Tshirts/ jerseys to the crowd, or even just the students.

It's like a Bulls rally before a playoff game last year.  I don't think the Bucks would let that happen

Cause the Bucks own everything.

I completely agree with you on George Thompson though. Those warmups should have been sold online at the bookstore on Wednesday. And honestly I agree with you in general about bball marketing. I just think they're doing what they should do for this game. Just let it happen.

I would guess around 15%.

MECCA Bar???

I walked in there about 9:45 pm Tuesday, coming from the Baylor game, to watch the end of the Wake Forest/Badger game. It was about the 7:00 minute mark of the second half of a 2 point game. At the 5:00 minute mark the bar gave "last call" and with 2:00 minutes left in a 1 point game, they shut off EVERY TV in the place and threw everyone ( approx 25 people) out!!!!

As far as I'm concerned, MECCA Bar doesn't know it's ass from a hole in the ground when catering to a sports oriented crowd, and I'd never go back after that boneheaded move ( especially when there are 20-25 other bars on 3rd Street and Water Street).

Just go next door to Good City and have a beer from one of my MU Law classmates.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

So much for "MU vs UW isnt a rivalry", "You guys care more about this game than we do".

If they didnt care why rent out bars by the home arena?

Because they have a lot of alumni in the Milwaukee area. Let's not overthink this.

Yes pep rallies are cheap to run and pump up the students and other attendees.   They should make a big deal of games like th8s because.... It 8a MORE fun to do so than to not.    That 8s part of the student &. Experience,  in terms of renting a bar out, who is paying for the MECCA bar?  UW?  That would be a lot of liability.    But if alumni do it then that's a different story,   Could be organized by school like MU does/did for the DePaul games in Chicago.   That was always fun - party before the game.    Or the multiple venues that were set up when we played for the elite 8 in phoenix years back.

Yes MU should make big games FUN for the students, and alumni who help keep things going.

Which is around 3K. Seems right. It's never half as some claim. Suite area in the 1st year had tons of red.

I'm sure it's the alumni association that's having an event. Not sure what liability they would have.

I know that have not rented out MECCA. My group of MU people have reserved tables there. I had  no control because we are meeting out off town MU people. I am not happy about going there after the NCAA foolishness last year but will bite the bullet.

Mu8891

FWIW ... it's the
" official home " ... and on the UW
BB Twitter ( which I do not read ...
someone sent me a screenshot)

But ...
A. I predict a win today

B.  Really wish that MU would do far better in marketing the program

Last year the team watched the tournament selection show from Mecca.

If they do that this year, shame on them.  Patronize a place owned/managed by Marquette alums.

Have some patience, FFS.

I think they were giving Morsell or Lewis NIL $ too, iirc.
