This makes zero sense to me.  Absolutely infuriating and tragic.  I am recalculating my feelings towards the Norwegian government .

There should be a worldwide outcry over this tragedy.  100% unnecessary.  And she was a young walrus too.  This was murder,  period.  And this scumbag should be held accountable.

Based on this article I agree. I think there were multiple better options to handle this situation

100% correct.  Freya took some naps on boats and was frazzled by dumbasses taking selfies and kayaking close to her.  She did nothing wrong, wasn't threatening at all, and the summer population there was dwindling.  She almost certainly would have headed North.  This is beyond upsetting and the Norwegian Minister of Defense is an assclown and a reprehensible pos.

Haven't followed this at all, but I will say Muggsy's need to blast out every animal cruelty story as a new topic is something. Not that I'm in favor of animal cruelty, but seems like a bit much for this board, even in the Superbar. Maybe just have a "WTF Humans?" thread?

There was too long of a line for this at the state fair :(

Golden Avalanche

This was inevitable.

If you have anger at the situation direct it at your fellow humans who threw things at the walrus, goaded the walrus, tried to pet the walrus, attempted to swim and chase the walrus, etc.

As is usual, the fault lies with the people who made bad choices not with the people who have to clean up the consequences of the bad choices.

Feels like a "WTF Humans" thread would quickly beat the "NM" thread.

My anger is towards all humans involved in this tragedy GA.

Walruses are the last left of their particular species.  They are wicked smart, highly social, and their only perceived vice is that they never get full.  Sadly there are only about 250K remaining on the planet.  This was a totally unnecessary murder of an innocent and healthy walrus.  We should start a humans suck thread.

It's a manatee, DB

Manatees were once considered mermaids by lonesome seafaring sailors. How much rum does it take to think that?

While sympathetic, I'd recommend you don't use the word murder.  Its a bit hysterical when describing an animal being euthanized given all thats going on in the world.

As for walruses, its kind of fascinating that not only are they the only species left of their family and genus, but its not as if other species were extinguished in modern time as with many others.  The vast majority didn't even make it to recorded history.
