If tOSU wins multiple playoff games and make the championship, how do you justify spending $37 mil to get rid of the coach who went to the Big game?

I think many tOSU fans are already preparing for an early exit. Also, I don't think their fans take losses to Michigan as well as our fans take losses to Wisconsin.

Quote from: The Hippie Satan of Hyperbole on December 04, 2024, 08:16:03 AMI think Ohio State might still be the best team in college football right now. They lost by one point on the road at Oregon, with that fluky ending, and lost to a Michigan team that they clearly have a mental block against. Depending on the bracket, it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see them roll to the championship game. Ohio State under Day has been very good. Urban Meyer good? No. But they are still the class program of the Big Ten.

I don't think they are the best team.  Most talented overall?  Maybe.  But I don't see it and neither do some of my OSU homer friends.  They have game manager QB who has had 2 of his worst games against PSU and Michigan.  They don't have an elite RB.  They have insane WRs, but those are negated a bit by the previous 2 issues.

Agreed they are not the best, but I do think they are one of the 4 that actually win it (along with Georgia, TX, and Oregon)

I think they also have major oline injury issues

Michigan didn't have any sacks but had something like 20+ pressures.  Howard was seeing ghosts at the end of the game

Waaah! We blew a 21-0 lead to Syracuse but we still think we're being screwed! Waaah!

Miami has beat no one. I get that people aren't thrilled with Alabama but it's hard for me to get worked up about it. We are dealing with a bunch of good, but not great schools at this point.

The reports that Bill Belichick interviewed at North Carolina are interesting. I don't think this is going to happen - its more about letting people in the NFL know that he is still interested in coaching.

I am thinking that the market for him is way softer than people think it is. He is 72 years old, the Patriots were not great post-Brady, and he has a reputation as a grump who wants everything his way.

Plus, I wouldn't give him GM power if that's a demand of his as well.

I think thats the thing.  Belichick the coach has forgotten more about football than a lot of the HC prospects in the NFL right now...but he's no longer equipped to be the HC/GM role.  If he was hired as a pure HC, with a good OC (and not McDaniels or one of his NE lackeys) I still think he could be good.  But we've seen that combo Bill no longer has his fastball and the Pats roster construction was really lacking, even when Brady was still there.

WhiteTrash

Bill Belichick and college football makes as much sense as Cheerios and ketchup.

I honestly don't think he would last 12 months on the job.

Wonder if Rich Rod gets some P5 interest. He's had a bit of career renaissance.  Gonna be 27-10 in his first 3 years at Jacksonville State, including back to back 9-4 seasons in their first 2 years as an FBS school and bowl appearances, and now a conference title.

Obviously Michigan was a bad fit, but he wasn't horrible at Arizona and he seems to have an offense screaming again.  Lower level P5 schools could do way worse

Interestingly, I was having lunch with one of Rich Rod's former WV players a two weeks ago and he mentioned that Rich can be a real SOB to not only players but everyone around the program.

Not entirely surprising, but hasn't hurt Brian Kelly's career progression
