Dak Prescott likes that scramble

Not all scoop users are created equal apparently

What does that do for Marquette's chances?

Another awesome day of college football. Texas v Oklahoma was a dud, but Penn State v USC, Ohio State v Oregon, Florida v Tennessee, and Ole Miss v LSU all went into overtime or were decided on the last possession.

The home team won three of those, which lead to a fantastic atmosphere as well.

Not bad for a dying sport.

The Big Ten matchups were a product of realignment too, so can't be all bad.

All of the results in the Big Ten helped Marquette's cause.

Or perhaps I was wrong.  First to 35 wins the Ohio St./Oregon game?

Or neither team gets to 35

Won't happen as both still play Notre Dame, but would be hilarious if both Army and Navy were undefeated going into their game against each other.  That game is played after the CFP selection.  Would be awesome to have one of them selected as the non-Power 4 conference representative, and then lose to the other in the Army/Navy game.

There's a decent chance they play Dec. 6 in the AAC championship game and then again Dec. 14 in the Army-Navy game.

Hah good point.  Guess one won't be undefeated even if they both beat ND.

I didn't realize until today that Army / Navy will never be played as a conference game in the AAC.

You don't think Army or Navy are in Northern Illinois' class?

BYU pulls a W out of nowhere against OK St. BYU's QB has some of the worst happy feet/bad pocket presence I've ever seen and looked panicked the entire final drive but had an amazing scramble and then dart for the winning score.

Battle of two good coaches who are never going to win anything of note.  Sitake has been pretty good at BYU, but every time I watch them I'm shocked at how poorly their games flow.  Unless they completely blow the doors off a team, like the K St game, they always relax and let teams come back. It's happened for years.

And Gundy, man, I struggle to think of another coach in a similar situation. Good to very good, but not great.  Always seem like they are on the cusp of being a top 10-15 team and then have a down year and start all over.  But as we've talked about here, pre Gundy, OSU  was aggressively mediocre.  Even Jimmy Johnson/Les Miles were nowhere near Gundy's winning percentage and his best years dwarf theirs.  Frankly, them getting better jobs for barely being Top 25 teams speaks to how hard of a job it is in Stillwater.  I don't think they ever fire him short of scandal or 3-4 consecutive losing seasons, but damn, feels like purgatory sometimes

I watched the end of Florida State losing to Duke, and you'd think there would need to be a coaching change, but I don't know if they can afford it. But furthermore I am not sure if that job is as attractive as FSU folks think it is. It wasn't that long ago that they were able to get Oregon's coach to make the move, but I can't imagine that happening today.

I mean Novell was 23-4 over the last 2 years.  This year just went off the rails for sure, but you can swap a roster very quickly these days.  They have a decent defense, they just have a terrible offense and didn't properly replace any of the skill players.

They got Taggert from Oregon cause he was a Florida guy that always wanted to come back.  But that was a terrible hire in retrospect.  But Norvell has been a big upgrade and he's still only 43

Perhaps a big factor in this year going off the rails is Norvell being too aggressive in flipping the roster. They spent a reported $12 million to bring in not-great guys like Uiagalelei and Alabama backups (five of them, to be exact) without, it seems, much care for how they would fit. A disjointed, disinterested roster is the result.

Regardless, firing Norvell after this season would cost $71 million, so it's very unlikely. That goes down to $54 million next year and $45.6 million in 2026.

WhiteTrash

Agree that Norvell has been a big success. FSU had fallen off dramatically and while this year is awful compared to his early success, he did not walk into a great situation with talent and momentum that some top level schools have to keep 'the train rolling' under new coaches.

That said, he need to make sure this season is a one year blip. Dykes at TCU is feeling heat 18 months from being national runner up.

CreightonWarrior

I'd support northwestern just keeping their temporary stadium. They don't draw crowds as it is but being right on the lake is pretty cool.

Lennys Tap

Indiana QB out after 2nd quarter injury. But they're up 42-7 vs Nebraska on their way to 7-0. Their offense is really good.

CreightonWarrior

Despite their efforts to convince the nation every preseason, Nebraska is not back.

Three of their wins are against teams with a combined four wins. They will be fortunate to win another game this year.

The only game I saw where they looked really good was the 1st half against Colorado. Otherwise, pretty pedestrian.
