My favorite Greg moment came at the absolute zenith of the Wojo era, Feb 23 2019, where we beat Providence comfortably in Providence to move to 23-4 (12-2).  (We would astoundingly only win one more game after that)  I happened to score some goods seats in the aftermarket about 6-8 rows back behind our bench, and as Providence fans were filing out late in the game, Greg (in street clothes as he was injured) was saying to them in the sweetest voice imaginable "Hey, where you going?  C'mon, don't give up...they could come back."

Seemed like a good-natured, fun kid, and he had his moments as a player for us.  Wish him the best wherever he winds up next year and in the future.

Haha, I see what you did there.  If he does, it might be the first time.

Good Luck Greg.  The guy was always 100% in. I respect that. I don't understand why he wants another year of college ball. He isn't a young guy. Why not go get paid somewhere?

You can get paid in college now.

And I'm not exactly sure how much he'd get paid playing overseas.

Greg will make zero in college.  He could definitely get paid overseas at least for a few years.

Guys don't really make that much "overseas" unless they end up in a top European league.

You can definitely make good money - tough lifestyle but it pays the bills. Lower leagues still pay 30-50k all expenses included. Not bad to play in high school gyms half the time.

Interesting what some people think is good money.

The Sultan

Yeah there is a reason that a lot of guys similar to Greg just play a couple of years in the European basketball backwaters before moving on with their lives.  The money is fine, but you aren't really building a career.  They scratch the itch and move on to something more lucrative.

Just curious, while it appears that most on here think Greg is a great guy and is well liked, is anyone disappointed he is likely not going to be a member of the MU basketball team next year?

I will.   In the same sense I get whenever a player graduates.   At some point next season, I will wish Greg was still around.   Just lime the times this past season when Kur and Osa were getting manhandled that I missed Theo.

Alas.   The circle of life.

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Theo filled a role that wasn't replicated.  I think whatever role Greg played is going to be easily replicated.

Especially defensively. Greg's biggest role this past year we're to provide senior leadership as well as a link to MU's past.  He did well in both of those roles.

I see too many players of Greg's caliber on the roster and not enough players of Justin's caliber going into next season. Hoping for a couple portal additions and a return for Justin.

The Sultan

IDK. Having to serve an in-season suspension and having multiple questions asked about how "all in" he actually was kind of clouds my view about what kind of leadership he was providing.

Of the returning guys, who is a comp with Greg? I agree on Justin but struggling to see who the players of Greg's caliber are on the current roster.

Not in terms of play style, just in terms of impact on winning basketball games. I think almost everyone on the roster was roughly on Greg's level outside of Morsell and Justin last year. There will be a couple guys who improve in the offseason and with more opportunity, but we need an upgrade in talent.

The Sultan

I think Marquette would have been better served with more Mitchell and less Elliott as the season went on.  I think his role could have been easily filled even last year.  I have no concerns about filling what was *at best* a replacement level player on both sides.
