Westwood One play by play guy (Tom McCormick) mentioned Matthew Lee during the broadcast last night and added this anecdote.

"Matthew Lee is the son of former NBA player Butch Lee"

I wanted to punch my radio.

Two-time All American
1977 NCAA Champion
1977 NCAAT MOP
1978 NCAA POY

How does he not mention his college experience?  Mike Mokeski is the son of a former NBA player.  Matthew Lee is the son of a legend.

Making a true statement about him, and a compliment at that, is an "assault?"

Marquette fans need to be less triggered.
"I am one of those who think the best friend of a nation is he who most faithfully rebukes her for her sins—and he her worst enemy, who, under the specious and popular garb of patriotism, seeks to excuse, palliate, and defend them" - Frederick Douglass

CountryRoads

During one of their games (maybe last night), they cut to a picture of Butch Lee in an MU uniform and said he was a former Marquette star.

Miss Katie’s

Butch Lee had success over UNC.  Hopefully it's the same for his son.

Seriously.  Its not like they said "Matthew Lee's father also played college basketball in the 70s".

Back in the day, Paul and Linda Mokeski lived down the block from us in da Quon. Turns out Mrs. 4ever and Linda took pre-natal classes together at the Y and were both due within a week of each other. We struck up a friendship, attended a Bucks game or two with Linda, and shared a few after game munchies at Elsa's and TGIF. At Miss 4ever's 1st birthday party, we all
celebrated Michael's too. For the record, Linda's father was a dentist in Kansas. For sure he was white, probably old now, but doubt he was demented, hey?

4ever,

If her Dad is like the dentists I know, he might be a bit twisted.

I wish I could be insulted by someone calling me a former NBA player.

Maybe Butch did not want to be associated with MU after we got destroyed by North Carolina.

I have to confess, for reasons not particularly important, I have not seen St. Peter's play in the NCAA Tourney and as a consequence have not seen young Mr. Lee.

Could he play in the Big East? And if so, I guess that begs the question.........

He probably wouldn't play much in the BEast but has made huge plays in the tournament.  He's minced the mesh from.the FT line at KEY junctures.  We're talking the net literally not moving and the opponent realizing that misery awaits in due time.  He's a very cool customer under pressure

In a word, no.  Great story, but he was a walk on who averages under 8 pts a game in a low major conference.  Doesn't overly fill up the stat sheet otherwise. There is a reason he did not get high major looks.

He's taken 2 FTs a game in each of the tourney games.  6-6 is nice, and full credit to him, but you've made it sound like he's marching to the line an sinking 4/5/6 straight FTs in crunch time to ice games.  He's a 74% FT shooter for the season.  He's stepped up, but it's not like he's Novak up there.

If his last name wasn't Lee, he wouldn't be in the discussion even amongst the key cogs for the Peacocks.  That's Ndefo, Banks, and...DOUG

He's made four critical free throws that sealed W's.

The FTs last night didn't seal the game.  Up 4 with 45 seconds left isn't sealed in any way.

He's hit big FTs but you're making him out to be the most clutch pressure player at the line in tourney memory. "Realizing misery awaits in due time"...Doug and Banks have both hit as many, if not more clutch FTs in this run as he has.

Again, if his name wasn't Lee, he wouldn't be the topic of Scoop sonnets nor the focus of their run.
