Strength of Schedule
« on: December 12, 2021, 08:49:01 AM »
For what it is worth, KenPom ranks our schedule as the 43rd toughest so far, which is the 10th toughest out of high majors and 2nd in the Big East (two spots behind Nova). It also ranks us as having played the 16th strongest defensive schedule (meaning the quality of defenses we've played has been really high).

So, maybe some of our poor offense is because we've played really good defensive teams....It's also possible that playing our poor offense has inflated these teams defensive rankings!

Either way, probably not going to get better in the immediate future. KenPom ranks Xavier as the 3rd best defense in the BEast and UConn as the top dog on defense. Going to need to find a way to get those outside shots to fall.

That’s all good news kinda!

Man if only some of those shots had fallen it would have been different last night. These kids need to hit at least some of these open 3’s.

We have played a very competitive schedule and played against some strong D’s. I might lean that poor offense is more of a factor, but we have played stiff competition. Either our shots to start to fall or we will need to shore the D and rebounding to be competitive.

I have seen enough to believe that our guys can be better shooters based off form and general talent level. Shooting is contagious and right now it is horrible.

Our offense is bad, because we take the first available three. Outside of Kolek distributing the ball, I am not sure we have any offensive plan.

The offensive plan is very clear. Dribble drive, shot at the hoop if you have it (not happening a lot lately), kick it if you don't, pass around the perimeter until you have an open shooter, if you don't, start process over again.

The problem is, our shooters aren't very good right now. Need to at least make 33% of our threes for this to be an effective strategy.

If they shoot 33% from the three going forward they can win some games. I agree with your post on struggling against upper tier teams. My only argument, they have enough of those games to figure it out and steal a couple.

We couldn’t get past anyone last night (dribble drive) to kick it out for an open 3.
Therefore, it was pass around the perimeter and hope that the 3 goes in….which it did not.
