The Athletic prediction for MU-Ole Miss
« on: November 18, 2021, 08:29:08 AM »
Since the "Gotta beat Ole Miss!!" thread has become a "Gotta beat/understand/change the betting line for Ole Miss!!" discussion, I thought I'd put here that The Athletic included tonight's game among its games to watch. https://theathletic.com/2961997/2021/11/18/college-basketball-picks-ohio-state-xavier-milwaukee-florida-and-more-games-ats/

Marquette vs. Ole Miss (-4.5) in Charleston, S.C., 7 p.m., ESPN2. The Golden Eagles gave first-year coach Shaka Smart quite a ride Monday night at home against No. 10 Illinois, coming back from 12 points down midway through the second half to win 67-66. The Golden Eagles were led again by 6-3 super senior guard Darryl Morsell, who had 21 points and is averaging 22.7 points in Marquette’s first three games, compared to nine last season at Maryland. Ole Miss has done a good job taking care of the ball during its first two wins (10.5 turnovers per game), which will be important against a Marquette squad that forced Illinois to cough it up 26 times. I realize the Illini were playing without All-American center Kofi Cockburn, but I don’t think Marquette’s win was a fluke, and this team is too mature to let this one slip away. The pick: 15 on Marquette.

Too mature?  I’m not sure how that fits our team in any context.

Everyone of our starters has played college basketball before.  Context and stats (KenPom) be damned.
