My thoughts on JLew
« on: November 17, 2021, 07:28:15 PM »
I like our 1-2 punch with DM and JL.  Justin quietly had a superb 2nd half vs Illinois.  In order for us to reach our ceiling I think we need a consistent 3rd scorer and for Lewis in particular to be good on both ends and the glass.

I think he's trying to figure out how best to conserve his energy and where he's most effective on the floor.  I think there are times he plays too fast off the dribble when he attacks.  He can very easily get a 10 footer but more importantly I would like to see him more under control at the rim and use his pivot foot more and the shot fake.

Anyway, I'm rambling a bit.  My hope this year is that he's a 15 and 8 guy.  I think he can be but I would like to see fewer forced threes and a bit more patience inside.  Where should the young man look to attack vs a zone which I expect tomorrow?

He is building on the flashes he showed last year before his injury.  Looks quicker and better conditioned.

I don't see how he can be put on the foul line against the zone.  The one thing he hasn't done so far this year is pass to set up his teammates.   IMO, he has to be on the perimeter.   Unless MU goes small.   Then put him on the low block.

Excellent point Tower.  I think he may have that opportunity vs a zome to pass to his teammates.  It's definitely an aspect of his game where he can grow.  He looks much quicker to me with his downhill blow-bys.  I just think if he's a little more patient and under control, to either to pass or score, it brings his game to a different level.
