Duke fan projection for Theo.

Aside from Gafford being exponentially more athletic.  That is a fair comparison of his role this year at Duke.

Haven't followed Gafford in the NBA, but as a college player, definitely not a guy I'd compare with Theo. Gafford far more agile, fluid, can run and bounce... much more of an offensive guy.. .fairly high usage guy (~mid-20%s vs. John well under 20%)... far, far better rebounding numbers, and turnover rate %'s. They both can block shots and get to the line, but... yeah, don't love the comp.

Agreed.  They'll be surprised at how unathletic Theo is, especially in traffic.

As a 15-18 mpg third/fourth big, he will be a dream come true at Duke.     That is all he needs to be.     Barring injury or foul trouble.

He was asked to do way, way, way too much offensively last season. He shouldn't have to worry about foul trouble with the minutes he'll be receiving.

HE'll be a good addition to a good team.

wadesworld

He fits the Duke big man Brian Zubak mold.  He'll be asked to set ginormous screens and take up space in the lane defensively.

Did Marquette scrimmage Loyola?  It looks like some of this footage is at Loyola.

Love Shaka's emphasis on dunking everything at the rim.  I remember a video from early in the offseason when Osa was finishing through the coach's padding and he layed it in.  Shaka stopped the drill and put Osa back to the front of the line and made him do it again but finish with the dunk.  Also love that we practice throwing oops.  Going to need our guards collapsing the defense.  They'll need to be able to throw the lob and kick to a corner for an open 3.

The players were posting all weekend about being in Chicago so maybe???

Then seeing that 15 seconds reminds me that we are going to have the longest, deepest, most athletic team we have had in some time.   6 guys over 6'7.    6 guards between 6'3 and 6'5.    MU may be switching everything on the perimeter from 1-4.    And with some line ups, they may be switching 1-5.      Those are the things that keep me from despairing and gives me hope that maybe, just maybe, it all falls together.

Maybe the team just took a tiny vacation? Buzz used to do a northwoods camping trip IIRC
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

MU tweeted they practiced there during their team retreat.

Defensively we'll have our own Davion Mitchell (Morsell), Mark Vital (Lewis), and Tchamwa Tchatchoua (Kuath).  Now we need to find Butler, Teague, and Flagler and then some offense.

Rothstein reported that Loyola beat the blocks off of UW-Madison 71-56 in a "secret scrimmage". Should be interesting to see if they report one for us. Hoping they do!

Would be an interesting measuring stick. Don't want to put too much stock into pre-season scrimmages but I have too many LUC friends giving me crap about our basketball program, so a scrimmage win against them would be ideal for me.

Maybe MU will be the new Dunk City.

Yeah but UW didn't have 3 of their best players. And it was Loyola's Super Bowl sooooo....

Well, Texas did have the highest share of 2 point shots being dunk attempts last year (17.1% of 2pt shot attempts), and had been in the top 15 the past 4 years:

So, it's certainly a focus of Shaka's offensive scheme.

Considering that in the last 3 NCAA tournaments, one program has 6 wins, a Final Four, and a Sweet 16, and the other program has one win period, I'd say it was the Super Bowl for Wisconsin, and they did their best Buffalo Bills impression.

Time to resurrect the Dunk-Meter?

I'd have to see if we still have the code around (that was spiral's specialty).  For those that weren't here...courtesy the wayback machine...

Was this retired the year we had Acker and Cubillan starting? I think that would have been a pretty lean year for the meter.
