Bottom line, win games to create public interest.

No he’s not.

Wojo is four months into a three year remaining contract. Being paid for fly fishing and hiking. MU made this move to be better than that. Tonight was Piano Man quality. The 2nd ND AD in a row is now  on the ticker. And I like Scholl.

The school bought out the remainder of his contract.

I'd be curious to know the budget for tonight's madness vs. years past.

Which lasts three more years (which is why he is not working or talking to the press). That said, I am talking hyperbole so we agree.

Did you think tonight's Shaka premiere was good?

Much better than Wojo on the mic.

Buying out a contract means the contract ceases to exist. He’s not coaching anywhere now because he’s not a desirable candidate.

Shaka’s premiere is on 11/9 at Fiserv. I don’t care about tonight.

Wouldn't Shaka's premier be considered the first regular season game which is on November 9th?

I'm sure there is offset language in the buy out too, so he doesn't have much motivation to work this year.

And yeah, small crowds at Madness is pretty meaningless.

How did we look this evening?  Ty.  I assumed Shaka was more capable with the microphone than Wojo.

If the marketing goals were to pump up the new coach, sell packs and singles, energize the student body, and sell recruits, this was a Fail.

Otherwise, I am reminded of Bob Fukiet. I am left to wonder what MU was thinking?

I caught bits and pieces of it. Shaka was fine. Players seemed to enjoy themselves.

Problem is this event has gotten stale. It's more or less been the same since Crean was here, save the lockout year when the pros came back.

The small crowd is a reminder of the malaise left in Wojo's wake, and the scale of the rebuild in front of Shaka. I hope he's up for it.

Since there were no heralded recruits or transfers brought in by Shaka, winning is the only thing that will revive interest in MU basketball.

This is why you don't bring in top recruits for an event like this. Frankly, it looks like a mid-major production.
Compared to the extravaganza put on by Kentucky or Kansas, its embarrassing. I agree its stale, hey?

Seriously don't even bother. Embarrassing, no planning, nothing that gives you a hint about the team, just awful.

I don't want you to "go away," but I wouldn't put that much into how SS's first Madness was attended.

I would be more worried about if student season tickets didn't sellout. Well, they did pretty fast.

As I said, the format of Marquette Madness was changed about 4 or 5 years ago to a students only event. With the main event being a concert after. That is all the junior and seniors know. I do think it was a smart move to bring the general public back. Yet, the damage was already done. They are not magically coming back. STH now have the mind set of a private practice at Fiserv Forum. That takes place October 14th.

Very depressing

At “ big time “ program would not run an event this poorly.  It’s grown stale.  They basically told the general public to go away a few years ago - dumb.  It’s also way too early on 10/1.  Apathy thanks to
Wojo.

But ... also .... where is MU’s so called marketing department?  I think they do a consistently awful job of marketing the
BBall team.
