Have an 80s vintage Ford F150.
Used for yard projects like using hauling mulch from the local landscaping materials business.
Was thinking of selling and getting something more recent but used.
Now will rethink that.

Get on the list for a Lightning.

A little bit of relief?

The Manheim Used Vehicle Value Index published Thursday showed the price of used vehicles dropped 1.3% in June compared to the prior month. This marked the first month-on-month decline in prices since December.

To be sure, used car prices compared to last year are still quite elevated: in May, prices were up 34.3% year-over-year. ‌

Manheim?  Wasn't that the institute in The Naked Gun?

From Yahoo Finance:

Used car and truck prices rose 10.5% over last month in June, the most on record. New car prices also rose by the most since 1981, increasing 2% month-over-month. These gains in the auto market accounted for more than half of the monthly increase in core CPI, which rose 0.88% last month.

Bought, or more correctly, leased today.

Had a 2011 Buick Enclave with 127,500 miles on it. Great car, wonderful interior, has served us well. But had a computer meltdown in rural Georgia last month when were returning to the Midwest from Florida, an air conditioning breakdown that would cost $1,500 to fix and recurring transmission and exhaust problems. Sooner or later the brakes were going to need repair as well and that's $1,000. Tires were new.

The deal I got for a 2 year lease and 12,000 miles from Nissan for a Murano Platinum was spectacular. Got somewhere north of 6,000 for the Enclave. Needed the Murano for two years, at which time I'll either turn it back or sell a LaCrosse I own and buy the Murano outright for the residual value.

We just spent about that for all four brakes on my daughter’s Nissan Rogue. Nice car but not a Bentley.

You guys have a less expensive option — I’m all ears.

Had to get it done because she is moving to Denver in two weeks.

Drop it off at my place, and I’d be happy to do it for $500. 😀

Seriosly, that’s about $150 in parts.

I’ve done my own brakes for 25 years.

Brake jobs are one of the biggest rip offs known to mankind.

If you are talking calipers and rotors, it’s a bit more.

You usually don’t need front and back done at the same time too.  They wear at much different rates.

AC is a huge ripoff too. Helps if you have a vacuum pump, which I do.   Changed out 3 or 4 compressors over the years.

Misread the post.   Thought chili had the brake job on the Bentley.   ;D

Just replaced all 4 discs on a minivan for $475. Did not do pads. $1000 seems excessive.

RC83 is absolutely right.

Also, that is a TON of things to go wrong on a car at 127k miles... like an obscene amount.  Our '13 Mazda CX-5 has 140k and we've changed the brakes twice and the oil every 5k.

Brakes, rotors and calipers should run you around $500 max.

You ever heard of Take 5 oil change or any of those drive thru ones?  A frickin oil change runs like $80+... like WHAT?

Plenty of good reasons to do your own oil change if you have the tools, knowledge and capability. You know what oil and filter is going in. You make sure the old oil is completely drained. You check the old oil for signs of any potential problems. Lastly, a sense of accomplishment. I doubt Take 5 gives a darn about any of that.

AutoNation had outstanding earnings report today, and its CEO says demand for new and used cars should stay hot into 2022.

Has anyone ever used Turo before for a car rental?  The rates in Hawaii in Dec/Jan are freaking insane.

No.

But, I did sell a car to a guy yesterday that is staying at the Ritz in Kapalua the first week of August. His room is like $2,500/night but he is not renting a car while there because those prices were “too expensive.”

A few years ago I rented an Audi SQ5 from a guy to tool around Sequoia National Park for a week. He dropped it off in North Hollywood, I drove it like I stole it for a week, then he picked it back up in North Hollywood. Super easy, but a lot like AirBnB your experience will be 95% dependent on your 'host'.

$714 for the week, $70 after the fact for the mileage true-up. I made the owner aware that I'd be over on miles beforehand to set expectations.

Wow.  Do you live in Maui?

It may actually be cheaper to ship a car from California to Kona believe it or not.  I'm a bit concerned about the insurance from Turo but honestly don't know much about it.

It’s brutal. Found a really nice 2020 Hyundai Ioniq the all electric one. Only 300 miles on it  but had a manufacturer buy back.

Despite the buy back, dealer wouldn’t come down a penny from the asking price. And honestly, I believed them when they said someone would buy it for that price.

Disappointed, really nice option if you’re looking for an electric and don’t wanna shell out for a Tesla.

I have a 2010 Accord with 219K miles on it.  Is asking $30K too low?
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.
