Someone new.  So that's a positive.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Warriors4ever

My two alma maters. I'll have to go. Maybe a gold shirt and an orange cap.
They both played in 2003 in Indy in the first round. The Illinois game was first so I had an Illinois shirt over my MU shirt, so I could do a quick change, and an MU cap. The MU cheerleaders came around towards the end of the Illini game distributing something or other to any MU fans and you could see the puzzled look on the one in our aisle...
You're always with your undergrad school though I think so it's Go Warriors....

Skatastrophy

I appreciate this. It's allowed me to start the morning off with some crap-talking.

It's always made me wonder why Illinois and MU don't schedule something on a semi regular basis. They haven't played each other since 1993 (!).

A neutral site United Center game has seemed to make a lot of sense over the years. I thought if you did a early/mid December United Center event with MU/Illinois/ND/Iowa State, it'd draw well. I included Iowa St because their fans would show up.

This has always surprised me as well.  I think a consistent neutral court game would be great.

Wasn't that the thought behind the infamous Miller Park basketball game thoughts?

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Fun draw. They won't be nearly as good as last season but thanks to two starters taking COVID years, and two likely starters insta-transferring in, they shouldn't be bad. Could be the smallest team we see all season, I think they'll end up starting 4 players 6'3" or shorter, though their bench will all be 6'5-6'7 switchables.

Will also be interesting because like half of their roster was recruited by Wojo or Smart at some point:

Al Plummer (Smart recruited as an insta-transfer)
Austin Hutcherson (Wojo recruited as a transfer)
Coleman Hawkins (Wojo recruited out of high school)
Luke Goode (Wojo recruited out of high school)
Brandin Podziemski (Wojo recruited out of high school)

More like I-L-L-Annoy, amirite?

Definitely no the Illinois team we saw win the Big Ten last year. Very winnable game for us!

Very pleased with this, especially after the let down of getting Kansas State in the B12 challenge.

Cool.  I've had enough Purdue for one lifetime.

I went down a rabbit hole and looked up the last time we played each Big Ten opponent.

Wisconsin  Yearly
Minnesota  2000
Michigan    2016
Mich St.     2014
NW           1994
Illinois       1993
Ohio St.     2014
Rutgers     2013
Iowa         2015
Nebraska   2005
Indiana      2018
Penn St.     2018
Purdue       2019
Maryland    2019

Still strikes me as odd that outside of UW, MU hasn't matched up with Northwestern, Illinois, or Minnesota more often.

I seem to recall Minnesota being a pretty regular opponent.

I am surprised we played NW after 1987

The Lens

Feels like the Big East really won out with these games.

MSU going to Hinkle is huge.  Xavier has to be thrilled to host tOSU.  I think St. John's at IU will be an underrated game.

Crean set up a home and home with Minnesota in 1999-2000 and 2000-2001. We played them at the Arena. We also played them in the 1998 NIT quarterfinals, losing to them on a missed shot by John Cliff at the gun.

We played them in the old Blue and Gold invitational in 1994. Smoked them.

I live in C-U and I can tell you why the United center game that Illinois and Marquette had negotiated never happened.DePaul objected to the Big East about Marquette playing a game in there backyard the BE agreed and pressured MU to not schedule the game. Then years later Buzz hired Issac Chew off of the Illinois staff when he had only been in place for 3 weeks.Believe me it has left a bad taste in the mouth of Illinois.

I think Minnesota was a regular in the 70s and early 80s.
