I (and non Marxist Scoopers everywhere) concurr.

Sorry that you have no choice but to root against the newest Marxist in town, Shaka Smart. You seemed to really like the hire, too. Oh well!

I thought I handled it quite well, with humor of my own. Smile, Tony!

I watched ~20 minutes of the parade on TV.

I thought it was kinda sad .. broken streets with litter floating around, dilapidated buildings, and the TV shots where .. there were barely any viewers of the parade.

I mean, sure, that makes a statement and shows people the situation, so that's "good" maybe?

Otherwise, seemed kinda depressing.

I think it depends where they set up the cameras, but it was pretty packed at the end by MLK & Locust.

I guess those are the cracked sidewalks that Al referred to.  That is the real world where so many of our wonderful players  came from.

If this is such a notable event, why is it for 8 years president Obama never said a single word about it?

I mean, you don’t even make it hard. All from the first page of a simple search.

Anyway the Milwaukee Juneteenth festival has been around 50 years. I’m sorry I didn’t know that.

My bad, I just thought that president Obama would have made more of an issue out of it.

Actually slavery did not end on June 19, 1865; but on December 6, 1865 when slavery was abolished with the ratification of the 13th amendment to the constitution.

Juneteenth does NOT celebrate the day slaves were freed.

It celebrates the day slaves KNEW they were freed.

Yes, in Texas; but not in Kentucky and Delaware where institutional slavery was still legal until December 1865.

Ah, since we’ve got a “well actually” guy going for technically correct I guess we should cancel the whole celebration. Pack it up folks, nevermind on the Juneteenth thing.

You are technically accurate.    Like most holidays (Christmas, Easter, July 4th) the exact dates are not accurate but have become accepted over time.

In the case of Juneteenth, the celebrations originated in Texas, where the date is accurate.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

So what's your point?  That we shouldn't have this as a holiday because it's not 100% historically accurate?

Yes, and we will also be cancelling Thanksgiving and Christmas.

And the Good Friday-Easter conundrum as well as the 4th of July.

I've got a guess as to why he cares about the precise historical accuracy of the date on which Juneteenth is celebrated but does not for the others.

America didn't actually have independence on July 4, 1776. It wasn't until the British surrender on Oct. 19, 1781. We must fix this!
