Strength and Conditioning going to be very important for this young team

Trying to learn all of the new faces.

I find it interesting that Todd Smith has been with the program through several coaching changes.  How has he adapted for each coach in charge?  I wouldn't think the strength and conditioning aspect would change that much with Todd at the realm the entire time.  However, it appears Shaka has already identified players need to greatly improve their strength and conditioning.  Wojo would express how the team played tired some nights and then there were the end of season collapses.  Under Buzz, it seemed like players would run through a wall.

Wonder what Todd has done different from coach to coach?

The Sultan

I actually think the players were well conditioned under Wojo, but lacked strength.  I think the tired stuff was more mental than physical and/or was coachspeak.  The late season collapses were about basketball strategy rather than running out of gas.

Outside of John and Anim nobody under Wojo really looked like they remotely resembled a buzz player even after multiple years. Maybe Wojo asked for a low weight high reps strategy? Just theorizing.

Based on the new social media stuff, to paraphrase Rocky Balboa (the film), it looks like they're trying to put on some hurtin' muscle now. I expect big things on the conditioning level from this team--Shaka and Todd appear to be getting them ready for a few 2OT games.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

I think the tired stuff was just another of Wojo's (sorry) tired excuses.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Every time I see "Todd" in one of our headlines, I think Mayo.

And every time I see a mention of Todd Smith on Scoop now, I think about guru's excited reaction to the fact Smith was following some recruit on social media -- "THIS IS NOT A DRILL!" -- because guru felt it was a sure sign that the kid would choose Marquette (he didn't).

I don't quite get the purpose of this thread. Isn't every strength coach at every school working his guys hard? I have seen zero evidence over the past 7 years that MU players are in better shape than the players on any other team.

It's a nostalgic callback to the days when we were in better shape than other players... roughly more than 7 years ago. There was a video in my senior year (2009) that had guys like Wes and Nic going nuts. That crew got followed by the Zar, Jimmy, Jae cohort who were in insane shape (or at least had insane strength and were tasked with bodying 5s day in and day out and held their own) and the mythos was firmly entrenched that we had a SC program that churned out Capital D Dudes.

Sure, every SC program is working their guys hard. It's the off season. There's a new coach. This is one of glimpses we have to work off of with a ton of new faces and it lets us connect to brighter days.

Lighten up my dude.

Agreed. He had a lot of quality upperclassmen ahead of him on the depth chart at Clemson. Tiger fans really expected him to take a huge step this season with all that talent in front of him graduating.

Assuming Garcia is not back, I would expect Kuath to start for the tip...but I think O-Max and Lewis will play the 4/5 together a lot.
