Charlotte Neighborhoods
« on: June 10, 2021, 05:29:58 PM »
One of my kids wants to start his career in Charlotte. I have traveled to most major cities in the US but for some reason my Charlotte experience was limited to airport and nearby office parks. So I have no clue as to what the good neighborhoods are for young people and would like some help from someone who is in the know about Charlotte.

Just don’t hang any lights on his shrubbery.

Every 7th year, it’s referred to as “Tuesday.”

Just don’t hang any lights on his shrubbery.

Feel free to swing by and hang $100 bills from my shrubbery any time you want, Doc.

Not sure why people having actual friends bothers you, but you should try it sometime! We’d welcome Young Herman if he’d like to join us. Or even you, Zig.

From now on I'll only mention my buddies if I'm going to Arby's with them.

You sure sound like you could use a few beers, though, so come on down to Charlotte and have some beer with me and my buddies ... they'll help wash down those yummy curly fries!

Drinking a 6 pack of Hop Haus Yardwork Crushable IPA.  And hard pass on the NMBLA meeting.

That sounds delicious. I truly hope you're enjoying life as much as I am. Take care, Zig.

Moved to NC going on 20 years.
Lived north of Charlotte on Lake Norman in Denver, NC.
Personally, Charlotte metro great place to meet other transplants.
Club I joined that did both things in the metro and more outdoors was called:
Charlotte Outdoors Adventures.  Not sure if club still exists.
Lots of people from NE, Midwest.
Can't go wrong with moving to Charlotte.
Blood will quickly thin from only three seasons here.  Spring-Summer-Fall.

We moved from Chicago to here in part for the weather ... and it actually has exceeded our expectations. Yeah, summers are hot and humid. That's true of a lot of places, including Chicago. Spring and Fall are beautiful, and as you say, both run long. Winter is very moderate -- daytime high average around 50 degrees; we can get a little snow, but it usually melts in a day.

The brewery scene here is spectacular. Something like 40 of them, and they often collaborate. Decent music scene (pre-COVID). Much improved foodie scene from even 11 years ago when we arrived. Lots of other stuff for young people to do. For example, U.S. Whitewater Center is very popular -- not just for kayaking and rafting, but lots of other activities. In addition to NFL and NBA, Charlotte has one of the best Triple-A ballparks and its a Nascar hotbed. We're also getting an MLS team.

As you say, lots of transplants, so there are all kinds of opportunities for newbies to meet other newbies.

Herman:
What is your son's career/line of work?
I only ask in that there may be other very desirable areas/locations of NC that offer greater opportunity.

Charlotte and Raleigh would most likely offer the greatest opportunity for those professions.
