Does anyone have any intel on the Class of 2025 Deposits and whether or not they made their enrollment goal this year?   I heard applications were up considerably this past cycle but haven't heard anything about what if any impact that had on the yield (The percentage of accepted students who choose to enroll).  Deadline for students to decide was May 1st.

This was awhile ago, but I heard that they were on course to meet admissions and revenue targets for the freshman class, but that those targets were intentionally lower than they had been.

The small freshman class of last year is going to be a drag on enrollment and revenue for years - as it will be at many schools.

Through the grapevine, this class looks slightly behind but not significantly so.

Some of MU's midwest Catholic university colleagues though...yikes.

Anyway, I have sort of come to the conclusion that IF BE expansion is on the table again, getting a public university like Memphis would be a better alternative than some of those names that have been pushed forward here. I'm not sure they are going to have the $$ to compete in this new era - not sure some of our BE mates do even now.

I haven't heard any specific numbers other than the trend of more students living in the residence halls, which led to O'D being opened up again last year. We still have a few more weeks until Orientation so there is time for "summer melt."

Since commuters are only 5% of undergrad students (It was 25% back in my day) it's not unreasonable to assume that an increase in demand for dorm rooms means an increase in enrollment.
Have some patience, FFS.

My niece lived in O'Donnell her freshman year (2019).  My younger daughter made an official MU visit and spent a night hanging with her cousin so she could attend a pre-game gathering the next morning with her as the Marquette game was early the next day.  My daughter said, "meh" and I know my niece was never thrilled to live there but she is easy going.
Coincidentally, my daughter's freshman year dorm at UVM, where she ended up attending, was not that much different than O'Donnell.

I was not thrilled either, i wanted a real dorm not mini apartment, which OD was, but what sucked was getting food during Milwaukee winters. There were multiple days I'd wait till night to get a frozen pizza from the hall store because I wasn't about to walk to mashuda let alone McCormick AMU or Schoeder.

What trend, are not students required to live on campus?

Only first and second year students who don't commute are required to live on campus.

It was close to 50% when I attended. The first thing you learn was to make friends with a local. They had the "wheels".

I was bummed when I was assigned to O'D to be an RA, but it was a good experience. O
O'D definitely had more of a "brotherhood" feel there, and it was more social than when I lived in Mashuda. We had a dining hall downstairs that was open during the weekdays, and we went to Mashuda or McCormick on the weekends. After the Commons opened, both O'D and Mashuda had their dining halls closed.

post COVID MU was enrolling more local kids, and since they lived within the radius where they didn't have to live in the halls, they opted out. Not all of them lived at home; they could use their parents (or a relative's) address and get an apartment (my nephew did this). O'D was closed for a few years and only reopened for the 2024-25 year.

I was in OD circa 2009/10 well before the Commons was even a twinkle in Marquette's eye and there wasn't a cafeteria. I don't think there's a correlation to the commons unless they briefly opened one and closed it after.

I was there during 1995-96. Rony Eford used to eat breakfast there every morning. It was probably a money thing to close the dining hall in O'D, but didn't that area get turned into a social area, the Man Cave or something like that? I was surprised to learn that Mashuda's had been closed, especially after all of the money that was put into it turning it into a 50s style diner. I read the opening of Commons was the reason Mashuda's was closed.

O'Donnell was a women's dorm when I attended. My cousin was a RA there.

MU initially assigned me to O'D, but I refused. It was guys only — not my thing.

Yeah the man cave was fairly new when I started. Constantly smelled like it had just flooded, that musty mildewy smell and the hum of multiple dehumidifiers. Plus the absolute zero tolerance for booze made it usually a ghost town or only used by the gamer contingent but I've never really cared for gaming.

There were some game day events but at the time I would rather have a couple beers with a few friends in a dorm room to watch than a soda on the big screen with 50 guys I didn't know but different strokes for different folks.

I was in OD 00 and there was a full cafeteria in the basement.  The smells were so strong they stuck to your clothes, so it wasn't uncommon for a lot of the guys to have their 'cafeteria clothes'.

I heard that Seton Hall was not in great shape financially, but do not know that for a fact. What can you tell us not only about the BE Catholic schools but also Butler? And what about "names that have been pushed forward here"?

I totally get what you are saying-just hoping for more info please.

It is my understanding that Dayton, SLU, and especially Xavier, are struggling this cycle. Butler seems to be doing fine - they've done a decent job positioning themselves a little higher academically than some of the others.

Butler is starting a nursing program, enrolling their first class this fall, and they started a two year program that will feed into the four year school. Loyola Chicago and St. Thomas have established similar programs. Pretty innovative, IMO:
