Garcia shot blocking
« on: May 26, 2021, 11:41:34 AM »
Garcia blocked only 13 shots this past season.  Does anyone know how many of his shots were blocked?  Seems like more that 13, but that’s s just my impression. I would assume this would be another negative the NBA folks would point out to him.  It would be one thing if he was a high-volume shooter for anywhere on the court, but he is not.  In fact, I suspect that most of the time he was blocked below the rim.

Blocked shots aren't a huge stat.... Now contested shots, thats a big one.

Has to learn how to jump, his vertical is minimal at best.

how do you learn how to jump? You are either blessed with significant vert, or you are not.

I beg to differ. I mean you're right to an extent but at 6-11 he should be able to dunk (I don't recall that last season). He needs to do leg strength workouts and a lot of box jumps.

He did dunk a couple of times, but it was the easy dunk variety.

He might be 6'11" but he's not a center.  In the NBA he'll be a stretch 4.
IMHO there's no problem if shot blocking is never part of his job description.  I'd rather see shooting, spacing, slashing, and some nice action from the dunker slot where Wojo prohibited guys from being.

Garcia has tons to work on ...
Let’s hope he’s smart enough to come back.

If Timme ( guy from Gonzaga) is coming back cuz of the “ feedback “ from the
NBA, then that tells u what u need to
know about Garcia

You work your posterior chain with an emphasis on power (e.g. explosiveness, like moving weight *fast* not just moving lots of weight). You think high jumpers just come out the womb with leaping ability? Just like--literally everything--it can be honed and developed.

If he wants to improve his vertical leap there is 100% a program that can be implemented to achieve that goal.

I think Timme is one of those guys that dominates college but will never make it as a pro. I think Garcia is the better pro prospect

Garcia's shown an aptitude for spreading the floor would be my first guess.
