I don't think we could have asked for more his first three weeks!

GoldenWarrior11

I'm giving the school, program and Shaka and A+ for completely transforming the enthusiasm, excitement and interest in MUBB.  The team could be better next year (it likely will), or it could be worse than this past year - but it is undeniable that the trajectory and long-term outlook is radically different that it had been under Wojo - and that, by itself, made a coaching change necessary.

Welcome to all of our new players, coaches and staff.  Very excited and hopeful for the future of MUBB.  An incredible few days and weeks.

Yeah, but kind of boring today. Maybe some more action this afternoon.

I think the Haynes addition is big Goose.  And I honestly don't care about the star rankings of these recruits, I flat out trust Shaka and his vision.

I couldn't agree more with this post.  The excitement and overall hope from the MU fanbase is night and day.

Now if he could just get Patrick Baldwin, Sr. (& son), Bates, Morsell, and keep Dawson, he'd be earning his keep.

If they overperform their rankings that will be a testament to the staff in place and their coaching acumen.  If they become NBA players, that means Marquette is playing for national titles.

He's already earned his A+ for this week.  Gotta save something for next week... ;)

For sure. Hopefully 2/4 minimum.

I think Golden Warrior is spot-on with his overall point.  We're seeing a complete transformation and  this was absolutely neccessary.  Again, it will be a process.  We need to exercise some patience next season.  But the total lack of identity and direction of the MU program is over imo.  So, regardless of how enthusiastic you are as an MU fan about the moves this week, it's literally impossible not to be much more optimistic about out future than the past several years.

It's been crazy! I find myself checking Scoop every 20-30 min. to see what else has happened.

I've cared so little for MU hoops across the last few years. This is what we needed. It's exciting as hell to be out of the doldrums.

I do not disagree.  I'm just tempering what I expect next year and even years 2 and 3 until I see the product on the court.  The university did the first thing they needed to do and that was break the program out of its malaise.

Yessir, to all of that.

I've heard from a ton of fellow alums this week, all very excited for the future of Marquette hoops.

And this is completely fair.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm going going gaga over any of this since I remember similar sentiments when Wojo was hired.

Well stated, Unk.

Year 1 could be amazing. Or it could be a year of mostly growing pains. Or something in between.

Can't wait to get it started, though!

I don't remember anywhere near this kind of enthusiasm from everyone when Wojo was hired, either on the day it was announced or after anything he did in his first 3 weeks.  I think Wojo's and Shaka's first press conferences were so drastically different and the current optimism and excitement is so much greater than it was 7 years ago and rightfully so. With that said, we should all remain cautiously optimistic, but it does feel nice to have a reason for any kind of optimism.

I forget what year we are in the "once every __ years" but this would be an excellent jump start to bonding and cementing the program philosophy. Regardless, COVID probably has something to say about it

Not quite at an A+ yet. Few more moves to be made before we get there. I think we do.

The Lens

Most the season I felt Wojo was toast bc the apathy I found in my MU circle was at such an all time low that I figured MU could never run it back.

I knew a change was needed to get fans back.  So while I expected a change, I didn't expect a tidal wave.  These past few weeks have been absolutely transformational.  Not just in the HC, incoming players etc but in how my MU circle is brought back to life.  It feels like the 2nd weekend in March, it's amazing.

Well, we were coming off some pretty darn good years with Buzz (not his last) and so probably not as elated when he left and we get an assistant again.   This time, we are coming off 7 rough years - and we hire what might be the most experinced coach ever at Marquette!

But yes - there is a nice positive vibe going around we havent seen in a long time!!!  Go Marquette!
