Well, that was Gaineys guy. Looks like he didn't get it done. Time to let him go too now and clean house.
Agreed. Thank you for everything you did.

Gonzaga sounds like the early favorite for him.  Michigan was also squarely in the mix at one time.

Probably opens a path for David Jopin

He can go to Gonzaga and compete with Chet Holmgren and possibly Drew Timme for minutes.
He can go to Michigan and compete with Hunter Dickinson and Moussa Diabate for minutes.
Or he can come to MU, slide right into a starting role and play for a guy who's put three bigs in the NBA draft's first round the past five years.

Wishful thinking, I'm sure, but that's the pitch. Georgia apparently is a favorite for him as well.

Seems like very one dimensional thinking. If you were Shaka coming in with a clean slate would you measure an assistants value based on one player?

He may or may not be right for Shaka's staff but if he determines that based on one kids decision he's not right to run the program. In other words Gainey's tenure at MU did/does not rest on the decision of one 17yr old.

edit/add on: hopefully he comes full circle and comes to MU, if not, hope he chooses a place that's perfect for him

I thought he was pretty much a SF. No?

Boston Warrior

This was known to be a soft commit
We would love to have him
A huge loss
If Shaka can get him, great, but move on quickly

CountryRoads

The way the kid was blowing up it was probably a long shot he ended up here anyway even if Wojo was still here.

MuggsyB

Damn.  But we will be fine.

JTJ3

Joplin would be a 4 in Shaka's system.  Along with dawson, lewis, oso... i'd feel fine with the big rotation.

Of course it's not based upon one recruit. I think with Ss's connections to soooo many HS, AAU, other college coaches he has no loyalty to a Wojo leftover. SS can give a prized asst coaching job to people he's known his whole career....which I don't think will include Gainey.

That is rational and probably accurate. Also many degrees off of what CountryRoads was stating.

Dr. Blackheart

It's better that Shaka gets the players in who who want to be in his system with the coaches who know and teach his system.

For the players, it's important they pick the system and coach that fits their needs and wants. Fair to both sides on all counts.

Tums Festival

There are 1,000+ players in the transfer portal, so the potential is there to land another big man if Shaka feels it's necessary.

The narrative that just because someone commits to Marquette, then de-commits, doesn't mean the sky is falling. Remember back when Ahmed Hill de-committed and went to VT with Brent and Scoop went apesh*t. Never made a big splash and wasn't even the best guard on that VT team. Now he's averaging 4.2 ppg in the G League.

Yeah but Shayok de-committing definitely was a bummer given what he turned into

He was pretty darn solid.

Almost 1500 pts. Career 39% from 3.
