Grimes is tough!
How close was mu in his recruiting process?

MU24

Thought MU was in the final cut, but cant be too sure.

JWags85

MU was the top dog until some allegedly shady dealings is what's been alluded to here.   Big Daddy promised to share once Grimes turns pro.

He looks fantastic

bradforster

Grimes narrowed his final four to Texas, Kansas, Kentucky and Marquette.  Wojo and Shaka both recruited him fervently - an interesting tidbit considering the happenings of this past week.

I hope BD left a draft of that story, that will be triggered to post when Grimes hires an agent. One last post from BD.

Grimes to MU confirmed.

From what I understand Grimes came on his MU visit and told a few players that he was already decided on going to Kansas. He didn't get paid or anything like that like some have insinuated but obviously Wojo/Stan found out and weren't happy. I'm sure BD (rip) or maybe OnePost has the whole story but that's what I heard.

Heard Marquette had All their coaches together at some of Grimes' games.

Grimes was American Athletic Conference Player of the Year. But he did not come to Marquette so agree he is trash haha.

I've heard that story. I've also heard the opposite, that Grimes soft committed on his visit but then backed out almost the second he landed back home in Houston. I honestly don't know which version is correct.

Wasn't this the case where the mom really wanted him at MU but he really wanted to be at Kansas?

Anyway, tough player.  It worked out for him.

He was 18; he didn't know what he was doing.

Good player. Reminds me of a poor man's Deron Williams. I've seen mock drafts with him as a second-rounder, but many have him undrafted.

This is correct. His mother told him he couldn't make a decision/announce until he took all his visits. MU recruited him HARD, lots of time and resource. Kid shows up on campus, acts like a total jerk, and then tells a few players he doesn't have any interest in MU, and was only here because his mom made him do it. Staff was pi$$ed because they lost ground in other recruits while perusing grimes.

Can't really blame him.  Mom making him go on a trip that he has no interest in.

BD did not share, and I never got around to asking.

Edit, I remember the story now.  When BD shared, I remember it wasn't as shocking as I thought it would be. BD didn't want to go public because he was told in confidence.

Basically, Grimes visited because Dwade was in town with the Heat, and Grimes wanted a free ticket to the game, and to meet Wade. He never had a serious interest in us.  He also told some of the MU players that his game was too good for Marquette. He really alienated the players and coaches with his attitude.

With every player visit, Wojo would meet with a prospect on the last day of the visit for a wrap up.  When Wojo heard about Grimes', he blew off his closing meeting with Grimes.

I heard he had committed, but when he called Shaka to tell him the news, Shaka put his wife on the line.

Now that's funny ... but couldn't you have gotten the Hausers involved too?

Most importantly, what did Grimes whisper in MarquetteMike's ear during his visit?
