It's big. We swiped a title winning coach from a Power 5 school.

Who was incapable of winning a single NCAA game at that Power 5 school and who's team vomited all over themselves on the big stage last weekend

I've got IU buddies texting me that they are jealous and this was a huge hire.

The dominos fall, assuming Beard takes Texas job, that's another target missed for IU.

National perception should be much like when Buzz left to V Tech. I have seen some media questioning the shine of the Texas job which ultimately be the test of who they hire there.

Shaka does being a level of national coach it wasn't long ago he was mentioned in same breath of a Brad Stevens. Goal is that he returns to that level and this hire is a slam dunk.

Texas is a stepping stone job. First Barnes, now Shaka.

they ran Barnes out.

They've run the last 2 coaches out. Texas is the new Indiana

This will be another 7 years without an NCAA tournament win. I am not sure I can survive MUscoop the next 7 years.

Why?

Porter Moser went 12 years without an NCAA tournament win. Did that mean he was destined to go another 12 years without an NCAA tournament win? Jay Wright went 10 years without an NCAA tournament win. Did that mean he was destined to go another 10 years without an NCAA tournament win?

The key to using pre-canned talking points is to have more than one.

This hire will be well thought of nationally. MU married up today the BE should be put on notice.

Good move for MU and Shaka. This change will give Shaka the reset he needs. He now has a chip on his shoulder and I suspect he will do very well at MU.

I'll take that bet.

I think the national perception of this hire is very high (not that it really matters much).  Shaka is a household name.  Marquette hasn't been relevant short of Markus Howard for the entirely of the Wojo era.  I am getting texts from guys that hardly follow college basketball congratulating me on the huge hire.

I get why some people have some reservations about Shaka, but this is a home run hire for Marquette.  Shaka is going to do big things here, and I wouldn't bet agaisnt it starting next year.  I would have been fine with Gates/Moser, but we were looking at rebuild with those 2.  Shaka, especially with the transfer situation around NCAA right now, is going to put together a good roster right away.  Kids care about name recognition - Shaka and Texas have it.  Loyola and Moser?  Not so much.

He will be on the NCAAT breaks spewing all things MU and Big East this weekend.

I'm pretty excited.

I candidly thought that when the vitriol in Texas wore off, they'd come to their senses and keep Shaka. OK, he isn't perfect and lost to Abilene Christian, but for heavens sake, we lost to Miami of Ohio as defending national champions and a Top 10 ranked team. Virginia, just a few short years ago, had a dynamite team and lost to UMBC, a 16 seed. We didn't fire Hank (we should have) and Virginia didn't fire Tony Bennett.

What will matter now is what Shaka says when he's introduced. As a long-time supporter (though not as long as Brother Goose, probably), I want to hear something about winning a national title, Making Marquette Great Again and about having a "take no prisoners" attitude. I really hope he embraces the Marquette tradition of being a tough, well-coached, defensive, "let's have some fun out there" team who commits to making us the BEST IN THE NATION!!!!

It would be nice if he acknowledges he contacted Justin, DJ, Greg and Dawson and says, "they're staying!"

What will matter is not what Shaka says but what he does, how his Marquette teams perform on the court. But I get what you mean.

The Buzz analogy is a good one. People forget that Buzz was probably a year or two away from being fired. Had a bad last season, and the next one was looking dismal.

People are also forgetting that before the ACU game, Texas was considering giving Shaka an extension.

People will look at a coach coming off a B12 tournament championship, and a 3-seed, and a former Final Four coach, leaving to go to MU. The optics are pretty awesome.

Do we look like the desperate person that got spurned years ago and now is ready to take them again with open arms because we're still enamored with them?

Or does Shaka look like he's coming to us saying "should've gone with you way back when"?

Just feels like the national perception is  one or the other given Donedeal part 1.
Archie looked like a homerun in '18 and Holtmann and Underwood were an afterthought. I wouldn't worry too much about the coverage, results are all that matters.

ChitownSpaceForRent

Forget national attention, let's just talk about perception in Marquette's own backyard.

Had two Marquette grads text me today thrilled about Shaka. They enjoyed Marquette basketball, went to most games but are certainly more casual than scoopers.

You gotta realize scoopers are a different sort of crazy when it comes to Marquette basketball. Optics are good.
