Thanks.

hard day .. steve is a terrific guy, brought in good guys
we got to know him well over 7 years, it's hard
now finding a guy to take us to the next level
we need to be competing regularily for BE titles
tldr: yadda yadda yadda

homer: how close was it to firing him?
"it was a tough call.  too close to forest to see trees .. a lot of good happening, talented team, good kids coming in, gotta make a decision"
Time to give someone else a shot

homer: what was left on his contract
answer; fock off, I'm not telling you

homer: do you have a list of candidates?
It's in my head, or on paper.  Broeker has a list.
"thinking more seriously on the list over the past few days"

homer: amount of time to get this done?
I'd love to say we'd have it done today, but we need to take our time, yadda yadda, no artificial timeline

homer: did it come down to winning?
He did so many great things, but yes, we need to be successful on the court on a certain level, my role to decide if we're getting there.  No hiding it, winning and losing is important.

Homer: last words?

I'll say this .. I learned over the last little while how important this is to win, our fan base is passionate.

Quick Summary:
- "storied program"
- "need to compete for BE titles and deep march runs"
- "need to find the person to get us there"
- "typically dont comment on contractual situations but not hard to find on internet"
- him and Broeker each have a list
- "this is last convo looking backwards.  when he hangs up starts looking forward"
- thinks faster is better in getting new coach but won't rush
- Homer asked if it just came down to winning and it didnt sound like it. Sounds like there were conversations between him and Wojo on things that could be done differently.  Didn't want to get into that.
- Goal is to put out a good product for fans

Fairly encouraging interview from Scholl.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

It sounds like the last few days made a massive impact on the decision. Fans made all the difference.

Based on the tweets I saw, he’s looking more at a head coach.

Also said that him and Wojo had differences of opinion in expectations or things to change. Seems like Wojo may not have thought he’d need to change up anything major.

No no. Guys is an asshat who is bad at his job and doesn't care about MU ball.

Multiple "in the know" guys here told me.

Jesus man I don't know if this was an attempt to compliment the fan base or if he's that ignorant but the statement "I just learned over the past little while how important winning is to our fans"  really rubbed me the wrong way for an AD talking about our stories program.

Didn't someone post here recently that Marquette asked him to have an experienced coach as an an assistant on the bench and he refused?

I didn't listen, but I'm sure it was the boilerplate interview with the local radio guy.

Nothing hard hitting, no pressure from Homer, pure PR.

Yep. Been down the assistant coach route enough. Scholl knows this hire will define his tenure at Marquette. I see an experienced hire coming.

Yeah... and then he realized what he said and tried to retract it.  "...oh I shouldn't day that... I have known since the day I arrived..."

In any case the uproar this year seems to have mattered.

He sounded really bad and completely unprepared.

Bingo.

Agreed.  Although some info.

- He's not great at radio interviews
- This is not something that has been in the works for weeks, but rather last couple days
- The internet is pretty good at knowing wojos contract / buyout
- They haven't been talking with any potential candidates until today (maybe yesterday)

He quickly back tracked on the initial statement, but yikes. I was listening and almost threw my phone against the wall. So bad.

It sounded like it was more philosophical differences than the results on the court.

It was more than win and loses. He wanted to say more, yet kept it private.

Scholl mentions it again right at the beginning of this interview:

I imagine it’s much simpler then whatever theories people have.

Bottom line is Wojo was never Scholl’s hire.
