I'm curious if this would actually get some traction.

$0 because my money can be spent on truly important things
"Well, we're all going to die."

fjm

I would give $0.

Do I want us to move on? Yes.

But create a gofundme and let's see how offensive that is to MU teachers who lost their jobs due to this pandemic and financial mess.

You'd rather raise money to give to a millionaire than raise money for the teachers who lost their jobs without a buyout and were not getting millions a year?

Why would you give to teachers when there are children literally starving to death throughout the world?

Even more fair point.

Just curious, do you think these teachers are offended by Wojo's pay check (forget about the fact that he's doing a crappy job)?

Oh I doubt they are. I wouldn't be offended.

But I would be hurt to see a bunch of MU alums raise money to remove a man who has a job, and a buyout when I just lost mine (and didn't receive a buyout).

We have $110.00.  Well on our way!

100% yes.

Did you read their letter?

Were they offended by his high salary, or the fact that he's done nothing to justify it?  If they're mad about him making millions, they need to wake up.  That's just the reality of having a major college sports program.  Hundreds of schools around the country have a coach as the highest paid employee.  At some schools, coaches might even make up the top 2-3 highest paid employees.

What is the value of having the publicity and name recognition of being in the Big East and a major basketball school?
There would be no professor's if the student didn't come.
When the BOT wake up and forget about thinking Marquette is in the Ivy League we will again be competitive.   The Big East being an academic centered league is hogwash.  Don't tell me St. Johns, Georgetown or Seton Hall are recruiting at a high academic level.
I remember all the talk around here about how Marquette was demanding higher grade point averages to remain eligible to play.  Higher graduation rates or NCAA championships, not both, you pick.
Why did Al McGuire give up coaching?  I'll give you a hint.  The B.O.T.
WOJO is doing exactly as directed, not what MUScoop wants.

Georgetown is a top flight college, put down the doobie.

Who says that Georgetown isn't a top rate university, expensive also, by the way?
Question is the basketball players.
How is it that these schools can reload with players and even coaches in no time and we can't?
Could it be our standards, our location, our connections?

Back in the 70's I did H.S. recruiting in N.J., N.Y. and even with Al McGuire still fresh in mind Milwaukee, Wisconsin was a very hard sell.   I don't envy Wojo at all.   It's called the Big East for a reason.

All schools are recruiting at the same academic level that the NCAA sets.  If they want higher standards they can set them, but basically everyone doesn't.

As for the GoFund Me for Wojo, I would not give a dime. Having sent 2.5 kids to MU over the past decade, I have paid my dues to that club. It is their job to right the ship. They have an annual budget of a nice sized corporation and they should start thinking like a corporation. Bad hires, regardless of position, get canned in corporate America, regardless of what it might cost to do so.

Yep. I owned a small manufacturing company and had to make some difficult decisions, including firings, in order to stay profitable. While the analogy (company/university) is imperfect, the basic principles you listed are spot on. Lovell needs to grow a pair and get the job done.

Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.

I fully understand your post. MU spends a lot of money annually and they have responsibility to use wisely. IMO if you ask people for donations, you owe the donors to use it wisely and the best interest of the organization as a whole. I still live the life of a small business owner and have to make a lot of decisions in regards to finances and more than I like are difficult decisions.

As of when I posted I was estimating about $3,300 so far in the hypothetical GoFundMe.  You have a little ways to go.

Someone's taking this question a little too seriously.

A - the corporate analogy is spot on, do the right thing for the entity even though it's difficult. My issue is that there are more than a few folks here who would be fine with another aspect of corporate america - - "win at all costs".

B - .5 kid? That's why we stopped at 2, couldn't bear thinking of the 3rd as less than a full person.

C - re the OP, with the amount of ire on this board right now the top $ amount is.......>$100? That's 'mildly inconvenienced' MAYBE 'slightly annoyed' cash.

Actually have four kids, oldest transferred to Madison his Jr. year and the two youngest went to MU all four years. The .5 is high on my favorite list for making the transfer to UW, saved his Mom and Dad some money.

brewcity77

If there were a truly viable effort that could raise the money needed, I'd be in the >$100 category. But I don't think such an effort would get anywhere close to the amount needed.

BigWilly77

And here I thought the Fire Wojo billboard from a couple weeks ago was classless. This is of the same vein. What ever happened to that billboard?
