The seniors on his team are trash.  Reuvers and Davison are trash.  Ford and Trice are fine but they're 24 years old for crying aloud

If there's one team I'm hoping returns it's the Badgers just to hear all about how they've all been there for a decade and are older than most NBA teams
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Exactly.  They are underperforming considerably this year.

The best player is probably Jonathan Davis.  Potter is a mess defensively.  I think Badgers players plateau early.  For all the development talk, I'd argue sophomore Nigel Hayes and Ethan Happ were better than their junior and senior versions, so the excitement over Davis should probably be tempered

The funniest stat I've seen all season is Hunter Dickinson 15 rebounds, Reuvers and Potter combined 0 rebounds.

I wouldn't trade Wojo for Greg Gard.  I mean, I think he's a better coach, but I don't think he's really all that great.  His recruiting hasn't been stellar, and he's no Bo Ryan.  IMO player development has had a much shorter arc than under Bo too.

I don't necessarily disagree. Gard is probably at his peak. OTOH, Wojo's recruiting is at such a level that, if he figures out how to get more out of the players, he could easily surpass Gard.

But at the moment, it's hard to ignore Gard's performance.

brewcity77

I feel like Gard is a guy who is what he is. Gets system players that produce consistent results. Will probably always be in that 15-30 range of teams, with the occasional top-3 seed and occasional tourney miss. Good enough to make second weekends, not good enough to make thirds. You'd probably never feel like a real title contender, but also never be bad enough to get rid of him.

He's better than I thought a couple years ago, but not as good as Bo. Basically a poor man's Bo Ryan.

Sounds like a lot of rationalizing going on here.

About what?  They were a preseason top five team that has underperformed greatly this year.

No, Wojo stinks and this years Marquette team stinks.  Honest assessments

In light of the catastrophic season we have had I have zero problem with people venting and taking joy in Whisky getting rolled.

The biggest indictment against the Badgers may be that they lost to us. I don't see that as something to celebrate.

Are you seriously saying "At least we're not a fan of a team that's currently projected to be a 5 seed in the tournament!" Marquette is on 0 brackets right now. I love wallowing in the Badgers' misfortunes as much as the next fellow, but to be happy not to be in their position is just dumb.

MuggsyB

Fair point but Whisky is not a 5 seed and they could fall to the 10 line.

I don't know, this from last night's game is incredible: The Badgers hit a respectable 5 of 14 three-pointers in the opening half but missed 19 of 22 two-point attempts.
Perhaps most troubling is that UW made just 4 of 15 layups in the game.

That's true and I agree.  That's not what this thread is about though.  The original post implies that the Badgers are in worse shape than our pathetic team.  Others posted saying they wouldn't trade Wojo for Gard or we're better positioned for the future.  All nonsense.

Lol, they're still in far better shape than the hot mess we have going on.

I wouldn't want Greg Gard as a head coach until he showed me he adjusted his style outside his comfort zone.

I don't care if anyone wants Gard or not but some people are trying to rationalize in this thread that Wojo and our program aren't a complete dumpster fire by some how trying to argue the Badgers are worse off and Wojo is better than Gard.

Our second season with a losing record this century, seems an apt adjective.
