National Weather Service Predicting a "THUNDERSNOW"

Started by 🏀, February 05, 2008, 03:55:16 PM

Previous topic - Next topic

🏀

EXPECTED TOTALS RANGE FROM...6 TO 8 INCHES NORTHWEST OF A LINE FROM THE DELLS TO FOND DU LAC...AND 14 TO 18 INCHES ALONG AND SOUTHEAST OF A LINE FROM JANESVILLE TO PORT WASHINGTON. THERE MAY BE LOCALLY 20 INCH AMOUNTS DUE TO ISOLATED THUNDERSNOW. THE HEAVIEST SNOW WILL IMPACT MILWAUKEE... WAUKESHA...RACINE AND KENOSHA.

However, weather.com is only predicting 3-5 inches.

I'll go out on a limb and say 7" max. Very rarely does this kind of prediction ever come true. I remember the past few years we've had a couple winter and summer storm predictions like this and they dropped a few inches of snow or rained sort of heavy for an hour then it was done.

Combined with the rain, the storm sewers on campus are pretty backed up.

I say 7"-8" may be enough for a snow day.

I usually would agree with you. Whenever you see the weathermen getting all excited with that crazed look in their eyes, you can generally bank on a bust. They seem pretty confident about this one though. BTW, 7" is a lot.

7" is a lot. However, not when they predict 20".

Judging by current snowfall outside my window... I'd estimate one-inch by 5:15PM.

thundersnow? that sounds ominous. lewis black does a bit on something along these lines, "whenever you see snow, and you see lightning behind it, RUN"
