Just off the top of my head, it was sold that we needed to vaccinate and booster children for a disease that posed essentially no threat to them, and also kept them out of school, in some cases well over a year. People were whipped up into such a frenzy that they were trying to mask babies and toddlers.

Even now after massively successful vaccination campaigns, the rate of hospitalizations for COVID are around 10-30x higher than for the Flu.

Those hardest hit, with the highest rates of hospitalization, are those over 50 and those under 4.

Even after recovering, and regardless of hospitalization, all populations are subject to potentially life-long health consequences, not to mention those who suffer from long-COVID.

So maybe, just maybe it makes a heck of a lot of sense to vaccinate children. The fact that some don't realize this yet, including ones who are health professionals is sickening and highlights why we have so many problems with our healthcare system and quality of care.

I think in terms of quality of medicine, training, and depth of care, the US has the best overall medical professionals in the world, or at least a very real discussion for the top spot. The US is still arguably THE hub for top tier specialized medicine.

As for the system as whole, regardless of one's feelings on nationalized healthcare, it's hard to make the argument of being the best based on the overall costs and levels it can reach.

I agree with you there, but other countries are starting to make inroads.

And it is a whole other topic of conversation, but medicine, and medical research are in a stage of massive transformation. AI is already a game changer in medical research, and it will transform how health is treated globally.

I hope we stay a leader in that realm. It is fascinating how generative-AI is already impacting how drug discovery is being done, and it has broad impacts across all medicine.
