How do conferences not have a conference rule on this?  Why should one conference team get to have some fans, while others don't allow any fans in the building?

I know Big 10 football had a conference rule but BEAST basketball must not. I don't see the state of WI allowing any fans all season so we'll be at a bit of a disadvantage to others who do.

Dumb.

Exactly.  It's an indoor sporting event.  With only 10% capacity I'm sure it's fairly safe, and I'd hope they have a plan in place to make sure people are coming in at certain times and getting to their seats spread out so hallways aren't filled up.  But even so, the vaccine is coming.  The season is already crazy.  Why can't we just wait this thing out and come back next November to full arenas?  Just seems unnecessary.  But they're not alone.

If I were the Big East, this would be a hard no. I'm glad we already played there. If I had a team taking a road trip there, that would also be a hard no.

Guessing it's hard to have a conference rule, while cities have different rules.

The BE could most certainly say "no fans at BE games."  The Big Ten did this for football games regardless of the local rules.

Of course they could. Glad they don't. That wasn't the question that was asked.

I misunderstood the intent of your statement. I get what you are saying now.

I've attended about 50 youth basketball games since June so I would feel fine going, but I think you need to close the concession stands.

No food, no drink.  Don't give people a reason to drop their mask.

(Also make sure every fan shot guns 12 beers outside so they're well lubed and ready to rumble)

Which is why the conferences should have a rule.  No fans.

saw this on r/CollegeBasketball and the first response is "that's a higher capacity than their free throw percentage"

I don't think fans should be allowed, but if they are, this should be the rule. Give fans no reasons to drop their masks, and immediately eject them if they do.

Disagree, Brother Brew. Depends less on whether you have fans and more about HOW you have fans. If the social distancing is there; if the precautions are reasonable and if the seats closest to the teams are blocked off, not sure I see a problem.

Ive spent a good part of my fall in Florida and otherwise live in Illinois. The difference is stark. In Florida, bars and restaurants are open and have been continuously since May. In Illinois, nothing has been open even though a couple of counties around Chicago have met criteria to reopen. Yet, Floridas infection rate is half that of Illinois.

What we do in Florida is what I described for opening an arena. Check the social distancing, see if staff is wearing masks and do things like good hygiene on a regular basis.

tower912

No, you have been lied to about florida's rate of infection.

DePaul hasn't played a game yet but Creighton wants to allow fans.   Utter stupidity.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
