Worth it? Yes.

Ideas on how to get one? None, unless already pre-ordered.

My advice if you haven't pre-ordered?  Well, since you're asking. Wait until a great ps5 exclusive comes out. No release dates confirmed but both Horizon 2: Forbidden West, and God Of War Ragnarok will be 2021 sometime.  More will be in stock, and bundles will allow you to save money. Thats what I'm doing anyways.

worth it? hell yeah. My brother and i tried several times to order one online. We would log in to a store when they had supply and could order one. The sites immediately bugged on and we could never purchase. :( guess its gonna be a few months

Last night’s Gonzaga vs. USC game had the winning score end in a “5” and the losing score end in a “6.” While this windfall did not make me rich, it was enough that I’d like to celebrate by buying my 8 year-old a PS5.

Are they really still as difficult to get as my initial Googling is telling me? What the hell? What kind of business model makes buying $500 game consoles near impossible?

There is a worldwide shortage of computer chips.

https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2021-semiconductors-chips-shortage/

There have been enormous supply demands on all personal computer parts as well.  There prices of GPU cards for computers is outrageous... and that is if you can even find one.

Also, PS5 is a waste of money currently.  Wait until some games worth playing actually come out, then weigh your options.  Most games released on PS5 are also available on PS4, so there is no need to upgrade immediately.

I paid a hefty premium to buy from some rando right when it came out. As Hards mentioned, still not a ton of games, especially for me who mainly plays sports games.

However, 4/20 marks the arrival of MLB The Show 21, and it’ll all be worth it then.

That's where I'm at.  Bought it early.  Played 2K for a few weeks.  Haven't turned in on in a couple months.  But when The Show arrives on my doorstep in a few weeks I will be playing that quite a bit.

Also, the NCAA Football game coming back, whenever that is, makes it worth it as well.

If you’re looking at a new console, GamePass is making Xbox the clear winner.

As a PS5 owner this is probably true, but the PS exclusives have been and project to be far better than Xbox.

The system is definitely worth it, in my mind. The controller is definitely a key differentiator - just hope non Sony developers continue to take advantage. Load times for me is big trying to sneak in a bit of gaming between kid duties. I also came from the base PS4 and the differencr in graphics and framerate is noticeable

If you haven't tried Stadia, it's pretty slick.

Lacks titles still, but the speed and portability make it nice.

Yeah, I keep thinking it’s a 2K brand, but it’s not. Completely cross-platform is incredible for them to put out.

My wife enlisted her entire extended family to scour the stores and get me an Xbox Series X for Christmas. Didn't make it in time for Christmas but her cousin managed to secure one by Christmas to be delivered in January. With a 1 year old and a wife in grad school I don't get to play it as often as I like but it is NICE. Bigger jump between this generation and the last than any other jump that I remember.

Oh and shopping bots suck. Gotta be some way to prevent that crap.
