Has anyone else fallen into the trap of outfitting their children's (former) playroom with 80's and 90's arcade games

The current lineup at Benny's Arcade consists of: NBA Jam, Super Pac Man, Mortal Kombat, BurgerTime and Golden Tee; hopefully by the time Black Friday rolls around, the 9-cube cubby will have been relocated elsewhere in the house, thus freeing up some floor space for an X-Men vs. Street Fighter cabinet or Street Fighter 2 cocktail table.

Most of all, I'm curious whether any Scoopers have acquired an NBA Jam cabinet, and what their experience is playing online?

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Burger Time?

Honestly, I bought it primarily because it came with Karate Champ... I recall stealing many quarters from my parents to play that game at the Midway Motor Lodge on Hwy 100 back in the day.

Where are you buying your cabinets from?

Are they legit original scale/size cabinets or the new mini ones places like costco sells?

The latter... 3/4-scale, fully-licensed replicas (or reproductions... not sure of the correct terminology).  NBAJ & SPM came from Costco, GT from Best Buy, MK from Walmart and BT direct (online).

For nearly two decades, I've regularly checked eBay and craigslist for an original NBA Jam coin-op, but never saw one (working) for less than $3,000.   So the 3/4-scale unit for $399 at Costco seemed like a steal.

Good to see ya back, Benny.

Benny,
My brother out in the Twin Cities purchased an "arcade game".  It looks like the 80's game booth except it's programmed with 100's of the 80's games.  Even takes the quarter to start.  (It spits it back out after dropping in.)

Benny,

Welcome back. Your humor and insight have been very much missed.

Still many years away from having an empty playroom, but would love to have Digdug in the house. TMNT was one of the arcade classics for me (I am younger than you all)...would love to see Simpsons added to that mix.

Totally agree on TMNT and The Simpsons game, both were great.

There was an arcade version of RBI Baseball that had historic rosters on it. The Yankee team on that game was absurd.

PointWarrior

No arcade games yet...  but on 2nd pinball machine...

JWags85

Even if they are 3/4 size, if fully functional, those are an awesome price. Would love have a couple. TMNT, NBA Jam, and Time Crisis would be my top 3 to get

reinko

Shoutout to the original Terminator 2 game with the double guns.  Spent a fortune on that game.

No Space Invaders?????

BrewCity83

My list would start with Space Invaders, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Track and Field, and Mr. Do.

Yeah, I'm old.  All from the early '80s.

Last summer, specifically brought an old school pocket comb to an Ashville arcade to teach my sons how to dominate track and field.

I played so much Track and Field at Judge's back in the day.  Never used the comb though.

You guys should make sure to hit the Pinball Hall of Fame the next time you are in Las Vegas.

They have hundreds of arcade games from the 1930's through modern times.  And the machines charge whatever the going rate was at the time they were popular(usually a quarter).  You can have a crap ton of fun for $10.

The first time we took our kids there (they were grade school age), they spent a long time playing Pong.
Have some patience, FFS.

They took a long time waiting for the ball to travel from one paddle to the other.    :P

Ha, ha, true!

They were fascinated; I showed it to them, assuming they would think it was lame, but they really liked playing it.

How have I made it this far and seen no mention of Paper Boy?!?

And no Rampage?
