Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Died today at 65 from throat cancer.

Wow.  Geeze.  Another all time great.  One of the best, most innovative guitar players of a generation.

This was a fantastic interview with EVH put out a couple of years ago.

I 1st saw VN @ the Riverside March 1978, opening for Journey & Montrose and then again 1st row @ the Auditorium opening for Sabbath in '79. Never did see Van Hagar.

"Eruption">"You Really Got Me" off their first album is absolute genius.

Plus one. My ears are still ringing from a Van Halen concert 10 years ago.

Super talented. Knew he was lucky to find something he loved, and was great at too. Did Michael Jackson's song for free.

MU Fan in Connecticut

I saw VH at the Bradley Center sophomore year (1989) and over the summer in 1995 outside on the lawn at the now called X-finity Theater in Hartford, CT.

I really think EVH is second only to Hendrix when it comes to the innovative ways he made an electric guitar sound.

Now, I don't think he was as musical as a Clapton or Page, but I don't think that was ever really his goal.

EVH was a virtuoso that couldn't create write a song.

That's ridiculous.

Sorry, I should have been more clear.  He can play music and come up with riffs really well.  But he can't write sheet or lyrics.  I don't mean to take away from his accomplishments, because he is one of the GOAT guitar players... Probably the best of his generation.

Some guys named Lennon and McCartney couldn't read/write music, but they had some good riffs also.

Who said Eddie couldn't read or write music? His father was an accomplished musician in his own right,so my guess is that he had some music education.
Have some patience, FFS.

Why asking me?  I had no knowledge of EVH's music reading ability. Was aware of John and Paul though.

Check Hards post.

Yeah.  It has no bearing on anything at all.  And is completely invalid as any sort of criticism.  He was a great piano player and a guitar player that is one of the best all time.

Others that can't read music include Eric Clapton,  Jimi Hendrix and Robert Johnson.   Yeah.  Reading music doesn't mean crap.

Eddie Van Halen said it. He learned to play piano by memorizing what his teachers did.  Then improvised on it.

Hards Alumni

Obviously, GOS, but Sammy Hagar said it.  Eddie has confirmed he read sheet.  This takes like 30 seconds to google guys.
