The Big East

Bob Gibson was one of the all time great pitchers. Very intimidating on the mound.

Also played College Basketball at Creighton. A great athlete overall.

Not only did he play at Creighton, he was a Harlem Globetrotter for a year.  Then he gave that up cause it's was grueling and switched to baseball. Went right to the Cardinals and never spent years in the minors. Pretty wild

Simply a remarkable athlete and competitor.  Not many guys can say they dominated a game so thoroughly, they had to change the rules

Gibson, can't really say that either.  Only one guy in the AL batted .300 (Yaz at .301 and he was under .300 very late in the season).  The NL ERA was 2.99 and the AL ERA was 2.98.  If Gibson was not in the league, the rules would have been changed just like they were.

But the NL ERA was 3.03 if you don't count Gibson.  That is pretty amazing.

Fair point.  Should have said he was more or less the face of the said change
